What are the circumstances? That will usually have more affect than speed itself. How were you caught?

im guessing a ban or at least 5 points and a fine if they are easy (my mates in traff pol) and its usually at 30 mph over the posted limit you get a ban not good news i know but thought it should state the facts

I'd have thought 6 points or a ban. Don't know what i'm basing that on though.

Might be worth posting in the SP&TL forum?

Probably 6 points and a fine. Lucky you were not over the ton. Guy out here had a month for ever mph over. Lucky he was doing 102 rolleyes

ETA. Just noticed you were passing a bus. All will be taken in to account, you better hope you were not also crossing solid white lines. Or was this on dualer/motorway.

Not now its not. Used to be over 100 on 70mph was a definite ban. Now the courts look at the circumstances. You will need to see what paperwork comes through. Unlikely you will recieve a ticket with points/fine through the post. More likely you will recieve a copy complaint to attend at court. If you recieve paperwork for a sect 2 RTA then that carries a mandatory ban but if you recieve paperwork for speeding (most likely RTRA 1984) then you have a good chance at a hefty fine and points.

Just to try and clarify, was it the A90, or a local B road? Not that it will make much difference to be honest, if it ends up in court i'd be prepared for a ban. Police and Judges don't like high speeds on that road, and will prosecute to the maximum sentance/fine available. Info direct from a senior traffic cop for Grampian. The weather conditions and traffic volume won't be taken into account, but i suspect the fact you were over taking will have some bearing on the outcome.

OK, nothing coming the other way, so did you need to do 97 to pass a bus at 60 then?

Got done doing 97 on the a9 ( 60mph area ) about 5 years ago.
Got 4 points and a £300 fine. Had a clean license at the time.
Think it all comes down to the magistrate & conditions at the time
you were caught.

my only points are 90 in a 60 at 0100 on the A96, no previous convictions but i was caught with the gun, so it was a plain SP30 for me and a fine.
I was also overtaking, but my target car decided to speed up, so i pegged it to pass and didn't slow down as much as i should have. Own fault, isn't it always.

Will depend a lot on your circumstances at the time.

Ryan, Id agree with everything above and they would normally look at the circumstances however you might be very unlucky. Heading to peterhead after that speed camera there is the road to stcombs, only 0.25 miles from the camera. You probably know already but last friday the school bus stopped just beside the junction, the car overtaking hit the poor 12 year old crossing the road. Whilst you have probably passed safly it wouldnt susprise me if you are made an example of. Im also pretty sure that anything above 95 on local roads must be a court summons. Dont like giving bad news but you should be aware, cheers Craig.

Sad indeed the poor lad, but it never ceases to amaze me the number of people I see step straight out at a crossing because the "Green Man" is flashing, without a glance up or down the road to see if anything is coming.

I was sat on a bus the other day, 2 lanes either side of the island, nothing alongside the bus, we stopped in L1 as the lights were Red to allow peds to cross, she walked straight across in front of the bus with ZERO looking down the side of the bus just in case someone was coming, suicide really.

Watched a kid in Aberdeen cross at the green man and doing so stopping a police car with lights & siren going (who had anticipated his actions). Kid had headphones plugged in and didn't even bother to look either side (But will in future I'll bet as he got a scare).

Back to the OP, 98mph at Oldmeldrum cost my uncle 6pts & £400 a while back.

ACPO guidelines are summons for 86 or over in a 60 and for 96 in a 70. I'd say a ban's likely a 50/50 as you were 37 over in a 60 which would equate to 107 in a 70....

IMO.

Bad luck Ryan.

My advise would be to get yourself a brief pronto. Do nothing until you do.

I've been in court twice for speeding offences and my only regret was that I let the system shaft me. For the cost of a brief versus the harsher penalties if you represent yourself, it's worth it.
