One of my colleagues sent me an email today.. He travels from Aberdeen to Elgin every day and said he passed quite a few camera locations today on his way up..

"Just to let you know that there is a speed clampdown in grampian with police from other counties up today. Saw a speed trap on a road that i've not seen before this morning and it was a lothian and borders police car..."

below is a list of official speed camera locations this week (taken from NESCAMP - doesnt format well here!)

107 A952 between New Leeds and Jct with A90 at Cortes NSL
109 A90 between bend at South of Leys and Bogbrae NSL
203 A98 between Mill of Tynet and Barhill Road Jct, Buckie NSL
205 A941 between 30mph at Lossiemouth and 40mph at Elgin NSL
214 A96 Mosstodloch to Lhanbryde NSL
301 A947 between Newmachar and Whiterashes NSL
302 A947 between Mains of Tulloch Jct and Fyvie NSL
305 A96 between north of Pitmachie and Jct with A920 at Kirkton of Culsalmond NSL
306 A96 Huntly road between Jct with A920 Kirkton of Culsamond and Skares NSL
320 A96 Keith to Huntly road between Auchairn and Coachford NSL
334 A96 Inverurie between Thainstone Agricultural Centre and Port Elphinstone NSL
337 A96 Inverurie between Inveramsay and Conglass NSL
408 A93 at Banchory westbound from West Church 30mph
410 A90 between Mill of Barnes and Laurencekirk NSL
413 A90 between Candy and Upper Criggie NSL
420 A90 Dundee to Aberdeen road at Jct with B9120 Laurencekirk NSL
506 King Street 30mph
522 Great Southern Road 30mph
523 A90 Midstocket Road to Whitestripes Avenue 40mph

...as an aside, i saw a Northern Constabulary Freelander at the Mount Hooly Roundabout towing what looked like some sort of blue cherry picker with Speed Kills logos all over it.. At the top of the picker it had a big box (covered in tarp). Is this some kind of camera? Are they going to be poking over some trees now?!

It could be the thing that used to sit at the side of the M8 in Glasgow, it has a dot matrix board and displays reg number and speed to try and "shame" people into slowing down?
I wrote an e mail to neSCAMp a while ago about the frequency of vans sitting on specialist designated overtaking lanes but didn't get a reply - no defence? There was a huge billboard in Elgin saying that 2 out of 3 road deaths in this area occur on minor roads so I also asked them why the list they publish (the one on the previous post) only had major A roads on it? No answer to that either, they know where the problem is they just don't want to lose the revenue they get on the major roads!!
Rant over - I thank you,
Gary

It's the seat they use for demonstrations on how seatbelts can save your life i would guess. Seat is mounted on a ramp, you sit in seat, they release it, you slide down ramp and hit stops at the end, then guess what speed you were going. Supposed to show how at even slow speeds your seltbelt should be worn.

Ah the convincer! That sounds reasonable, just when the purge on speeding was mentioned I thought it might have been the trailer with the matrix board for displaying the speed or the ones they use at the side of the road for variable messaging ie. Don't use your mobile while driving sort of thing?

Sounds like the 'seat belt convincer' they were towing. We made the stickers and tarp to cover the cusion for this machine. Nice bit of kit and useful as it goes around schools to let youngsters feel what an impact with a seat belt would be like! The large cusion is (in their own words) just in case the seatbelt doesn't work!
