Hi all from me down south.

I am going to be in Edinburgh in a few weeks and am going out for a meal with my girlfriend, having only been there once before I am looking for some recomendations for where to go for a nice meal. I am flexible on style of food, nothing TOO pricey but nothing cheap.

Am hoping that someone can recomend me somewhere nice.

Thanks in advance for your help

There is a nice wee Italian just round the corner from Castle Terrace car park, not the Princes Street end, the other end. Or there is always Darios or Bar Roma on Lothian Road.

There is a great Italian on Dalry Road near Haymarket called Le Partinope or on Castle Street, just off Princes Street, there is a very nice Thai Restaurant called Time 4 Thia. Or on the South Side (West Nicholson Street) there is the Pink Olive (www.ilovepinkolive.co.uk) The Mussel Inn on Rose Street is good if a little cramped or you could venture down to Leith and thats a whole new ball game!

Khushi's is a super Indian restaurant. It's also bring your own bevy, which is abit of a bonus. Highly recommended place.

Just back from another visit to Time 4 Thia and have to say the seafood there is fantastic. Price wise we had starters and a main course for 2 plus a good bottle of wine and it was £75, not bad in my book and food to die for!

I always seem to end up in Leith for some reason.

Fishers is one of my favourites.

I've never eaten at Kitchin but it comes highly recommended.

If you want to push the boat out, try Martin Wishart but you'll have to book well in advance.

I hope you're made to feel welcome during your visit - actually, I'm sure you will be.

Cheers,

Eric smile

Yeah reflecting on what Kiltie said, Edinburgh and Leith provide some of the best eating in UK and in a very small area, nothing more than a 20 min taxi ride from the centre. We are spoiled! But dont tell everyone!

Kitchin looks great, it is just a 5 min walk from my good friends house but...
A michelin star restaurant. It isn't cheap.

Tom is a very good chef. He was in my Sister's year at school and his Sister is a good friend of mine. I'd like to go and sample the delights of his food.

Recent DNA tests reveal that I am the love child of Nick Nairn and Fanny Cradock so I know my onions.

Tom worked at Gleneagles before he travelled around a bit, gaining praise as he went. He came back and won his Michelin star and other internal cheffing accolades.

Back on topic - just remembered the wee adventure Murray and I had earlier this year.

The restaurant was pretty good - although I didn't choose very well.

Two things to think about though ...

  • The entrance isn't exactly salubrious so if that's a factor for your G/F, give it a miss.
  • The views are impressive and hence a part of the whole experience. In the dark, I'd prolly not mark it the same.
Cheers,

Eric smile
