I'm due to change my Fourtrak before the end of the year, and keen to go for a Jap Import. On the face of it they look like good value low mileage cars, in imaculate condition.

So now looking for a good dealer/importer preferably up here in the Shire??.
Indy Cars in Rothienorman are almost on my door step, but that's a big NO !!!
I'm sure there are few folk on here that run imports, your coments please, good or bad.

Ian.....

have you got a car in mind Ian.. i drove a DC2 Integra last year and was seriously impressed. i heard the new JDM civic type R is an utter belter. And not lacking in grip, this is something you will be surprised at coming from a quattro!

i am no Japanese import expert but personally i would travel to a good importer, or at least a recommended one.

I'm looking at late 90's 3rd Gen Hilux Surfs, the SSR G 3.0TD Intercooler model - as far as I know they have the same runing gear as the Land Cruser Colorado.

Not in the 'shire but i can't recommend private imports of Edinburgh highly enough. Everyone i know who has got a car through them has been more than happy! They are a bit pricey but i guess thats the price you pay for good service! Ask for John, he is always happy to help.

On the other hand my younger brother got his FTO through a pair in Leed's and they were useless. He was seemingly lucky with his car but he saw other cars getting thrashed from cold and the cars generally getting treated like dogs.

Having contacted various importers from Peebles to Inverness, with little or no response, it's not difficult to reply to an e-mail even if it's just to say, Sorry can't help you !!

Any way, I did get an lenthy and informative reply from West Coast Imports telling me all about the in's and out of importing, plus some previous examples of reports and photos of various car before they are shiped out. You get full deatailed mecanical report, from a test drive, down to the smallest wheel rim scratch or whether the the car has been smoked in, every thing is checked. They also send you a load of photos and not just half a dozen, up to 350 covering every inch of the car.
It takes about two months for your car to be shiped, then it's delevered to your door with a full years MOT, 6 months TAX, serviced, undersealed along with a mileage certificate.
Sounds a good deal to me, apart from haveing to shell out the cash up front???

Thanks for that - I did contact caldermotors, the chap I spoke to could only answer my questions, in single syllable words, and was not at all enthusiastic.

Is Mackay Trading closed? I thought I saw ads from them in Autotrader not too long ago. I got my Hilux Surf through them and was very impressed. Genuinely top class car and they were great to deal with.

they seem to be closed anyway, if you google them and open their site it says they stopped trading on the 1st july august? and the phone just rings out, i have not been along salamander street lately to see whats happening.

As for calder i suppose its the same as everywhere, it just depends who you get on the phone.
