my oldest boy (8) went to a pals birthday karting in Elgin a few months ago. He utterly loved it, although i wasn't there i was told he was much quicker than everyone else. I put that down to inheritiing his dads fantastic driving skill! However, he has asked endlessly to go back again he is realy serious about it and a bit of a petrolhead at a young age.. where can i take him for a good day out some tuition and such like or is he still just too young?

i dont push my kids into anything they dont want to do but he is really very keen, so can anyone suggest, recommend anywhere for a budding young petrolhead? I don't care if he isn't the next Lewis Hamilton but he really enjoys it.

a quick search on Google suggests that all the indoor (and outdoor) centres run special sessions and tuition for young karters 8 - 11.

Has to be Kartstart in Bridge of Don sir. Exactly what your looking for with cadet Karts for your son. Well organised and doesn't tolerate the bashing and "burying" that other places allow, which i'm sure you would appreciate for him.

Didn't realise kartstart was still going, I regularly went to the one in Kirkcaldy and bought a kart off them, then I stopped going because it was a waste of money when I could have half a day in Tranent with my own one for the same price as 30 mins.

encouraging response

does that mean you have done it all before, i ahve done a few corporate days, i also thought kart start went whent he new BP building went up. Knockhill isn't too far for a day, i would rather pay more and take him to something good than put him off at this stage... tution for 8-11 sounds ideal, let me enquire more...

I havent been karting before - too scary for me. We use Boyndie for our sprints. I know that they are promoting the new Motor Sport Association scheme "Go Karting" which allows child to participate for £5. More info at www.msauk.org
