I'll actually be flying the Newcastle Jet Provost MK3A into Leuchars for the show and should be with it on static display, feel free to drop me a PM nearer the time if anyone wants a poke around the jet.

Usually a good show, as long as the weather holds!

I worked at the Visiting Aircraft Section at Leuchars for 3 years in the 80's, we organised all the air shoes, great fun if not a bit hectic, if we got wet we would dry our hair in a Provost jet wash biggrin

LOL!!, your right there Cerbdog, I remember the first time I flew one, lined up on the runway, run the RPM up to 95% on the brakes whilst checking T's & P's, brakes off & shoved the throttle fully forward expecting to be pinned to my seat... how dissapointed was I as it trundled down the runway like a shopping trolley with a hairdryer strapped to the back !!

Still, I cant afford a Tornado and it gets going better once its above 100kts and does aero's very nicely so its better than a poke in the eye !

biggrin I'm not dissing your purchase though, all credit to anyone that can fly, let alone has a jet for a toy, although we really did used to dry off behind the Provosts! Obviously we were a bit spoilt as we had every kind of aircraft you could think of coming through over the years, oh happy days cloud9

No worries, its actually a share in the jet I have along with 10 others in the group, the initial outlay is not as expensive as you'd think it the cost of flying thats getting expensive with the current fuel prices, somewhere around £400 per hour now !! Not flown it in a while actually as I've been too busy with work and getting married but aiming to get a couple of flights done in the next few weeks.

You must have seen some pretty good stuff in your time, wish I'd seen a Lightning fly in the flesh, awesome bit of kit in its day...

Crikey, £400/hour, that's upmarket hooker prices! biggrin

As for the lightning, it was always special when they visited, although they were in a sorry state at the end, especially the in-flight refueller mod, eugh!

Well I can get that back to nearer £300 per hour if I take it easy with the thrust, suspect you dont get a similar cost saving from a hooker! biggrin

Hopefully will be there and will say hi if I am and see you. Always wanted to fly, hopefully will one day.

By the way, bit random, but last week saw a Spitfire flying round a few times in Stonehaven in the evening - anyone know why? Could have been a BBMF one but not sure.

Nice one, I'll look out for you !

Is that the same chap with the Spit that used to have the P47 replica by any chance ? I was considering buying that but he didnt seem to take me very seriously for some reason!

Last time I flew in a chippie was out of Turnhouse as an air cadet, threw up in it too ! Now that was a long time ago !

I don't think its the same chap, as far as Im aware this a/c and its owner are from Perth (Oz) and now residing here.

The two chippies that we are bringing along are G-AORW and G-BDEU, the latter is a recent acquisition which still retains its markings from when it did AEF at Turnhouse!

Ah I remember it well, best time was when they closed Edinburgh and we flew out of East Fortune, I had some cracking lights then.

Chaps, how hard would it be to get a shot in a Jet. I.E for my 21st birthday? Is it something that can be orginsed, or not a chance?

A trip in a variety of ex Mil jets (now privately operated) can often be arranged but its not always that straight forward and can be very expensive.
Jet Provost Mk3 & 5, Strikemaster, L-29, L-39 & Hawker Hunter, Harvard & Spitfire are the sort of things you could probably get a trip in or if your feeling really rich you can nip off to Russia and fly in a Mig 29, Mig 31, SU-27 or down to South Africa for a flight in a Lightning.

Prices range from about £400 - £20,000 !!!

Jollies in current RAF stuff is pretty much unheard of nowadays unless your famous ! Tried blagging a trip in something fast and pointy during my 2 years at RAF Kinloss and never even got close!
