Discussion
hi all,
a wee bird tells me that......
The A99 twixt Wick and Latheron is apparently one of the ones getting those new speed cameras that measure average speed- so it looks like the causewaymire is the definite route of choice now!
anyone from up that way know? and anyone with a tractor and a steel rope want to have some fun?
its the thin edge of the wedge, it would be a shame if it got *ucked up....

From the media release recently;
"A SCENIC Highland road has been classified as the most dangerous in Scotland.
ITV programme Police, Camera, Action! has branded the A99 Latheron to Wick route as the most likely to bring a fatality.
The programme worked with the Euro road safety organisation EuroRAP to compare the number of serious injuries with the volume of traffic.
The A99, which links Wick to the A9, was given a rating of 209.26 accidents for every billion kilometres of travel...............
...........Police, Camera, Action! said 40 per cent of drivers surveyed by EuroRAP believed motorways or dual carriageways to be Britain's most dangerous types of road.
In reality, statistics show that drivers are three times more likely to be killed on a rural road than any other."
Surely I can't be the only one who can see what's coming; if the A77 Ayr to Girvan SPECS 'pilot' wasn't the thin end of the wedge I'll eat my speed detector.
It's pretty well known that the A9 will be next, then the A98 then I'm betting on the A83 then possibly the A82. Get the hooning in now before we're all being watched by Big Brother.. every where. George Orwell was right; just 24 years, or so, out that's all.

there was a thing called "priva plates" out a while ago that when the number plate was powered down the plates went black, i think it was some kind of leds that were clear when powers up, did they go the way of the dodo?
there must be a way of making plates unreadable, any suggestions?
that hooked up to a pogo (or the like) and some "garage door openers"
should help things along,
i also am lead to believe if the format of your number plate is not quite correct they cant be digitally read?

The problem you have with that, (not sure about the rest of you) is i'd be stting it. Becuase you might hit the button in the car, and MIGHT not actually move down!robinh20mrv said:

I don't think many of the number plate scams work, and although a Bond style flip-down plate would be effective, I'm sure it might be of dubious legality
I have heard of mounting your number plate on some stiff springs. Stationary, everything is normal, but at speed, the vibrations apparently are too fast for the camera shutter. Persistence of vision allegedly makes these plates look normal to the human eye at speed too. Don't know anyone using it, but probably just another one to add to the pub type schemes and ideas.
