Hi there. Just looking for some advice. Stay in Edinburgh and hopefully now the weather is a little warmer was thinking of taking a few days off and going for a bit of a blast up through Scotland, probably leaving Edinburgh then either up the East coast, across then back down the West coast or vice versa. Just wondered if anyone had any tips, tried and tested routes, roads to definitely experience, wee inns or B&Bs on the way etc. Never really done a tour before just gone up to places and back in the same day. Drive a 987S so hoping for some nice roof down cruising (I know, I know, ever the etrnal optimist eh?) Thank you in advance for any help or guidance.

Here is a starter for 10, cross the Forth Bridge and drive up to Perth stay on the motorway until you have crossedd the Tay and turn off and head for Blairgowrie and then Glen Shee, Braemar and on to the A9 to Inverness. After Inverness stay on the A9 and head for Wick, the road past the Dornoch Firth is fabulous and still includes the infamous Berridale braes. From there head for Thurso and Bettyhill then down through Scourie to Ullapool and from here I will let Steve (Get Carter) take over. If you stay over in Ullapool stay at the Ceilidh Place, a wonderful place with all sorts going. If you stop near Genshee then place to stay is Dalmunzie, www.Dalmunzie.com I'm heading there myself this weekend, not cheap but so different, wondeful service, rooms and food (but dont tell anyone else!)

Not intending to be naughty. But, A little "search" on this topic would generate a wealth of route options.

However, if you're towing a caravan or driving a "Recreational Vehicle" I'm sure there's a Peoples Friend Motoring website somewhere.

Have a nice trip.

Thanks VetteG and WillTVR, sound like great recommendations. I guess I can also stick some places in the Sat Nav and see where they take me across and back down the West Coast too. Sorry Hemibum, will maybe do a search next time, thanks for your "advice".
P.S. VetteG, that Stingray is f'ing STUNNING - I assume you don't live near edinburgh or I would definitely have spotted that out and about - serious ride!

Thanks again guys for the advice and help

Doh, just saw on your profile that you DO stay in Edinburgh - I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled for that. Super rare. Note to self, learn to read.

Andrew,
I am in Corstorphine, so the car is seen mostly on that side of town, but heading up to Glenshee today, as I said earlier. Off to Doha for a month on Monday so the vette wont be on the road much in the coming month, unfortunately!frown

...and from Ullapool, just stick to the west coast... through Poolewe & Gairloch, and make sure you turn right at Kinlochewe this will take you past Shieldaig and round the Applecross penisular (a must!) then continue south past Fort William through glencoe and accross Rannoch Moor (for views another must).

Most of these pics were taken south of Ullapool and on the road to Applecross http://www.stevecarter.com/picaday/roads.htm (mostly in the rush hour... no, really).

Good luck...and if you get up and drive early, you'll avoid the caravans.

Have seen your Corvette outside your house. Very Nice. Almost bought a 71 LT1 but ended up buying the tuscan instead.

I'm in Edinburgh and had a trip to Fort William yesterday morning & back this afternoon (up Ben Nevis) - stayed at the Corrie Duff guest house up there and would recommend it. Quite enjoyed the drive through Glencoe etc in my 944 s2. (Edin-Stirling-Callander-Crainlarich-Glencoe-Fort William).

Hi guys.. not really sure where to post this, but since it's a drive through Scotland, here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvT3biz__o8

Glasgow to Crainlarich in 4 minutes, with one continuous shot. The quality didn't work out as I intended, but you can almost make out a red Maserati overtaking around 2.30.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-FZ2Av7ZME is the psychadelic version!

Will keep an eye out for you when u get back. Worked out in Doha a couple of years ago. Stayed in the Rydges Plaza near the harbour. If u need a beer there is a bar and swimming pool on the roof. Very nice. The ex pats bar called garveys is a good laugh too.

Cheers Greig

Coming up to Glencoe on monday hoping to have a good blat round on tuesday the pics on your link have made my mind up, heading up to towards Ullapool then down the coast don't think I'll have time for the ferry at Malliag so will have to head back to the A82 Just hope the weather is with me. Any suggestions for places to stop

Not sure how far round you want to break the journey, but if it's round here then there's an accommodation page on www.Torridon.org - or there is always the Applecross Inn http://www.applecross.uk.com/inn/
