Hello all, I've got a week off from the 21st and have decided to have a bit of a tour of the north of Scotland, well up to John O'Groats, across the top, down as far as skye and back across to the east coast....for fun.

Of course I'm not sure how long this will take, so what I'm asking is some idea of good places to stay along that route?

Thank you in advance

ITB

of course if anyone wants to join me on this journey, feel free to drop me a PM;)

I live on your route and can certainly recommend

The Torridon Hotel or Inn
The Shieldaig Hotel
The Applecross Inn

Check out www.Torridon.org

Give us a shout if you need inside intel into B&Bs etc.

Let me know what you're in, I'll look out for you.

Thanks Steve

I've decided to do it in 3 days instead of two, so I'm starting in Turriff and going to Thurso on day one, then down to Shieldag on day two and staying at Kiessimul B&B if its avaiable, then doing Applecross and a little bit of Skye then back to Turriff via Aviemore....should I take 4 days?

Also between Thurso and Shieldag, is there enough Petrol Stations between that route to keep me going?

Thanks, Ian

The Three Chimneys on Skye is excellent ...... but pricey. Well worth a stay and one of the top restaurants in the world. Great rooms too. They often do last minute deals which are reasonable and good value - well worth a visit if you're on Skye, depends who you're going with I guesswink

P.S. You should be fine for fuel in a Corsa between those points

Plenty of fuel stations. The last one you'll pass is Kinlochewe, worth filling up there as Applecross often runs out.

Kiessimul is a good choice. Nice folk. If they are full try Kinloch. If you see a dog wearing a red bandana, the bloke struggling to control it is me. Similarly, if you see a black Aston, the bloke struggling to control it is me.

Hey folks, off on Monday, staying at The Sinclair Hotel in Kiess on Monday, then driving from Kiess to Shieldag on the Tuesday and staying at the Kiessimul on the Tuesday night, then on Wednesday doing Applecross and heading back up to Inverness past the Five sisters and the side of Loch Ness then home to Turriff.

I will try and take as much pics as possible, and I'll keep an eye out for you Steve...

I'm doing a little trip around the north/west coast area too:
Saturday (Stirling to Inverness)
Sunday (Inverness to Durness)
Monday (Durness to Ullapool via Lochinver)
Tuesday (Ullapool to Stornaway)
Wednesday (Stornaway to Harris)
Thursday (Harris to Leverburgh)
Friday (Leverburgh to Oban)
Saturday (Oban to Stirling)

Not decided on the exact route yet. Camping though frown so no nice hotels until we reach Oban for our final night. We did from Oban northwards to Ullapool last year taking in Skye, lovely part of Scotland.

On Wednesday - If you have time, head right down to Rodel (southern tip) They sell great food there at the hotel opposite the harbour and you can camp by the beach at Horgabost (a few miles back).

If you get good weather Haris is just fab - in the rain, it's generally crap

More pics, mostly from Harris: http://www.stevecarter.com/harris-2007/hebrides.ht...

Good luck with the weather!

Cheers Steve!

That looks spectacular - just hope the weather's nice to us as we're planning on camping every night. I think that's our location for camping on Harris decided then smile. I'm taking my camera too and really hoping for some good shots, will post up anything decent I come back with.

We toured the Skye area and up to Ullapool last year - included a great drive over the Applecross road. Not quite the same in a Civic Type R (I've previously watched your 911 Turbo Highlands video) but still, the scenery is great.

Well day one done, 200 miles down, a hell of a lot more to do tomorrow, from Keiss to Sheildaig, with short stops at John o'Groats and Dunnet head for some photographic stuff.

It's goin to be a very long day tomorrow, hopefully leaving Keiss at around 8am as I reckon it'll take me most of the day.

It's been wall to wall sun here today... hope tomorrow isn't as wet as they say!

Happy driving.

Well, what a journey it has been, 722miles of great roads. Applecross is the business, would've been so much better if I could of seen the top, man it was foggy today.

The Corsa handle all the roads fantastically, went well, no backache and kept me entertained on the twisties thumbup

I might do a blog thingy about my trip if I can be bothered.

I saw your car as I passed (walking dog) at 07.30... sad it was low cloud this a.m. and for Applecross - still it brightened up and hopefully the rest of the trip was sun.
