A93 to Aberdeen
Discussion
The road will be fine - shame about the weather though.
Once past Aboyne, keep them peeled but unlikely to be any trouble since it's mid-week and poor weather (no bikers).
After Peterculter, it's 40 / 30 all the way in to Aberdeen. Best to observe.
Hope the weather improves during your visit and you're made to feel welcome.
Take care.
Cheers,
Eric

You can miss out the 30/40 zones by turning right at the traffic lights in Banchory and heading into Aberdeen along the South Deeside Road. Keep your eyes peeled for bikers and cops (see Kilties post as to why), and i've always found it to be much quicker then sticking to the North Deeside Road (A93).
The alternative is to stay on the A90 and take the turing for Laurencekirk and come over the Cairn 'O Mount, however the A93 from Perth to Aboyne is arguably a much better road.
As Kiltie said, shame about the weather, as the views are as fantastic as the driving

Am stopping in Edinburgh tomorrow evening then onto Aberdeen on Friday...maybe by then the low cloud will have gone and I can enjoy the mountains. Will let you know how I find the drive...very different from my commute in and around London!

Ah, Mr Rosso I presume. Are you still on for a get-to-gether on Saturday with Mr D_T_W and myself?
The A93 is an absolute cracker of a road.
I suggest you join it at Perth and follow it through Blairgowrie, onto Braemar, Ballater, Aboyne, Banchory and then into Aberdeen. The A90 Through Dundee is marginally quicker but it is boring as sin and littered with speed cameras. Dundee is also one of the most unpleasant places you could ever imagine. Unless I'm in a hurry, I'll always take the scenic route despite it adding 30 mins to the journey back North.
As above, be wary of BIB between Braemar and Banchory. There have been a spate of accidents on the A93 recently, so expect to catch plod hiding in a layby somewhere. To avoid the risk of being caught out, have a look on here for their mobile camera locations this week.
Enjoy the trip and hopefully see you on Saturday
ETA: I checked the site the the Fuzz will be keeping a watchful eye at the following locations on the A93:
407 A93 between Kincardine O'Neil and Haugh of Sluie NSL
408 A93 at Banchory westbound from West Church 30mph

You could also look for the l/h turn off after Ballater for the B9119 Tarland road and follow that all the way in to ABZ.
Quieter and better option to the A93 imo.
South Deeside a good alternative too though.
Watch out for the deer on the A93, and also as I found out last time watch out for tourists, stopping in the middle of the road, to take photos of the said deer.
