Evenin' all, just a quick post as me and a mate are currently talking about getting into photography. Just wondering where in Scotland you's suggest as nice spots to start off ?
Based in Glasgow atm but can obviously drive about.
Thought about up north but any chance some of you can narrow it down a bit.

Also pictures of any you have taken would be appreciated =)

Depends on what you want to photo.

Beaches - best head to the east coast.

Industrial - Glasgow is a good place to start.

Hill and Mountains - head north...

A good photo isn't just about location. The composition of the shot also makes the photo. Playing with aperture sizes can emphasize something in the foreground and ignore the background.

A good rule to remember is think in thirds. Pick key points in your composition that cross at points in the frame at 1/3 of the frame. A 50 land 50 sky photo is really dull, look at some pro shots to see what I mean.

At a recent 2 week holiday in the Uists I took nearly 1500 shots but only kept about 800, the beauty of digital.

BEaches are stunning up near Mallaig. Much better than the East coast and I live on the East. Mountains somewhere like Glencoe. Just go for a drive and u will find amazing scenery. Try the website http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/

Cheers folks, looking to go about around July(ish), hopefully when the suns out a bit more.
Will have a look at GetCarter's profile shortly. Hes the one with the AMV8 ? IIRC

Also needs some hints and tips on what camera to buy but will stick a post in Photography & Video.

Any other suggestions or examples are still appreciatedwink

Ah Ha... another victim hehe (Hope your wallet is deep if you want to get into DSLR photography)

If you e mail me, I'll happily provide what little wisdom I have. Especially about where and when to take photos up here, and what is decent in the DSLR kit range.

Well, the Applecross peninsula is a must - esp the coast road looking over to Skye and Raasay, then coming round the top of it and looking on to the Torridon mountains.

Nearer to Glasgow for you, you should think about heading over to the Isle of Arran and the Isle of Bute - both lovely and very doable for a day trip from Glas.
