Focus RS Crash Thurs Night Westhill
Discussion
There was a sliver mini cooper stuffed through the dyke at the carnie roundabout behind elrick last night (thursday around 6pm).
Again, just looked like it had happened and another slightly damaged car was present.
One question, "Why so many crashes there?" The dyke is full of holes from people going off the road there.

Diesel on the road perhaps?? It is used by a lot of trucks and farm vehicles (must to my frustration) Other than that it's a fairly safe road with the tightest conrners having the anti skid surface. But I agree it does have a LOT of accidents on that road... can think of quite a few deaths just in the last couple of years.
A month back there was a binned newish Evo just after the carnie roundabout going towards Culter, looked like he'd come off the roundabout, booted it, then hit one wall and bounced over to the next, there was another boy racer type Scooby there so who knows what was going on..........

It happens. I came off the road at a roundabout in Dundee a couple of years ago along with a few other people. Driving very sensibly and the car just had no grip and went straight on like being on ice. Turns out a wagon was driving through Dundee and was leaking Diesel all over the road for a couple of miles.

Ah that old chestnut....... Edited by gwatson on Friday 20th June 13:46
Most folk manage to negotiate that roundabout without coming off it so more likely errors in judgement or incorrect speed for a roundabout me thinks.

Yep I know, been there and experienced it for myself. Was just trying to make light of the fact its normally the excuse of choice for misjudgement/going too fast/not being able to slow down enough/ misreading roads or whatever the real cause for basically "stuffing it".

Diesel on the road as an 'excuse' is a nonsense. There either is or there isn't - it doesn't magically disappear. I can't see the coppers taking a driver's word for it.
Slightly off topic but reading this thread, I just can't get this tragedy out of my head.

Thanks for that - I now feel bad. I wonder if any other cars came off that bit of road on the same day.Slightly off topic but reading this thread, I just can't get this tragedy out of my head.

Many years ago I was on my way home from Aberdeen on the A90 in a Discovery, and happened to notice about a dozen sets of hazard lights blinking away in the darkness. As I approached I realised that none were actually on the road or at the roadside, but in the adjoining fields. The road was sheet ice, and people were leaving the road at every bend. I have seen the same thing in snow at Aviemore. That said, I didn't leave the road (although I did have "a moment" at each incident), more by luck than by design. I also clearly remember thinking to myself " You were driving too fast for the conditions you idiot!!"
We find in the course of our business that one of the hardest things to do, especially when our club members are doing driver training, is to get them to recognise their shortfalls as a driver. These tend to be lack of observation, not matching their roadspeed with the conditions, and braking too late. Modern sports cars are capable of cornering at far greater speeds than the skill of the driver will generally allow.
