No, not the black hotel in South Queensferry, but an elderly plane. It was messing about most of yesterday, and it's just gone over again today. Seems to be doing a clockwise loop north over the bridges, over North Queensferry and Dalgety Bay, and then back South across the Forth...and round again etc Had a wee look through the binoculars and it's white on top and grey underneath with what I think is a blue stripe between the two. Also got RAF style roundels each side of the fuselage at the back and some writing above the windows I can't make out.

Any ideas what it's doing? Is there an airshow at Leuchars or East Fortune coming up/been?

Probably a Dak from this company:

Giving enthusiasts one last flight before they're retired?

Yup, that's the fella in the picture top right on their web site. I wasn't aware vintage arecraft were all having to be retired from carrying passengers. A real shame.

Edited - just trawled thse site and it was taking passengers from Edinburgh yesterday and today http://www.classicflight.com/EventsCalendar. I would have been interested in that if I'd known. Just gone overhead again - sounds great!

Probably the one doing flights out of many UK airports. It's the last commercial flights of the Dak I believe. Friend of mine went up out of Newcastle lucky bu66er....

I was lucky enough to fly out of a Himalayan airstrip in a DC3 a few years ago - very Indiana Jones. An unforgettable experience, particularly as it didn't have enough speed to clear the hills at the end of the runway, so we had to go back for a second attempt!

I live near Edinburgh airport and saw it several times, my wife thought it was time for me to be committed (she is always thinking that, should I be worried?) seeing my inane grin as it roared overhead. Yummy!

To bring things to the modern era.

Three Tornados taking off from Edinburgh Airport at about 15:20 today.

I was in Newbridge at the time and my head was ringing for about 5 minutes.

a now.. my youngest brother is based in Lossie. I know there is a company there who have at least one in a hanger fully restored often used for movies and such like. These are all fully operational, but i can ask who owns them and if one was out recently!

[edit] just read the rest of the thread, would be nice to hear will see if they are heading over our way! I am not old enough to recall these first time round but i have also flown out of the an arse end of indian himalayas in a DC3, was great and yep indiana jones, was terrified and excited all at the same time. Reminds me when the shackletons used to go over the house when i was little, the noise is bloody epic. Oh got me going now, folks house on the black isle, remember going out for school one day (pink house top of black isle, we are SURE its a markers for the bombing range), military exercises, loads of low flying was practised there and a C130 was on low exercise training, i didnt hear it coming sayw the shadow then the RRRAAAWWWRRRRRRRRRRRR felt so WW2 could swear you could throw a stone and hit the underside. Ahhh nostalgia its a wonderful thing...

Was working on the coast at Druridge Bay, Northumberland many many years ago.
It went sort of dark then I got the fright of my life as the Vulcan pilot hit the loud pedal......from what seemed to be an altitude of about 30 feet!

I knew several Raf pilots, mostly retired now, in the air they were absolute loonies or so it seemed, zero feet flying etc. But stick them in a car and they preferred the Volvo and kept strictly to the speed limit..confused
