I saw Oli Clarks 700bhp Subaru at last weekends Motor Show at Knockhill and this Sunday is the full on Track Attack and Eurpoean Drifting Championships. Around 90 cars with average of 500bhp, I reckon thats 45 000 horse power on track during the day. Mega! Gordon Shedden, the Halfords Honda BTCC driver, tested Olis car and did 51 sec laps...mega!!

Anyone else going?

Yeah, think i'll be heading down.
I'm not 100% on the concept of drift racing TBH, but it looks like it should be quite good anyway!

That is amazing! Gordon, who knows KH like the back of his hand can only get a 51s in a car that has 700bhp, that does just bascially sprint laps! He should be getting closer to 47s with that power! He is/was an instructor there! Shocking, for the car not him!

tbh when gordon was driving it it didnt sound as if it was running at full boost. In the first session in the morning you could hear it had a much harsher "rawer" note to the exhaust whereas later on it didnt,if that was the case god knows how quickly it will go!

47 second lap in a road based car?? no way! The lap record is about 48/49 seconds and that was a radical which weighs bugger all.

I know Col, I have been going to KH for probably longer than you have. The lap record is 49 for a Radical, 47 by Sato in an F3 car and Nathan Kinch a 43 in his Ferrari F1 car.

Went along to this today and it was miles better than the motorshow last week, there was always something on track and although ive never been into drifting it is good to watch, and the speed of those imprezas and evos is pretty impressive.

I went with my son and his mates in a number of Jap cars - I thought it might not be my "thing" but it was a great day out! Those young lads (and girls) were every bit as petrolheady as the more ahem mature among us, it's only the finance available that's different.

Those Time Attack cars are great - I liked the idea that it was up to you and the car - you couldn't blame anybody for getting in the way or crashing you off...

There was a wee white Peugeot 206 that wasn't the fastest on track but it was a damn sight faster than it had any right to be!

The drifting was good as well - good fun for a change, spectacular to watch although the scoring is a total mystery - it's a bit like ice dancing and you don't always agree with the judges!

There is nothing wrong with sprinting, its a good form of motorsport!

Time Attack just seems like its sprinting with glitz and glamour injected into it.

Fee did a 59s lap in the 393bhp skyline, beating some much higher powered cars i think... but still sadly not enough to get to the final.

nop street legal toyo R888's,she was gunning for 58's.

Alex bruce (bruce taxi evo 7) his fastest was 56.710 but his brakes werent any good cause he totally destoryed a brand new set of pads during the sidc trackday so had to use set of pads that had did one trackday and round 1 of the time attack.Finished 8th overall

Laura Bruce (yellow evo 5) her fastest was a 60.081 she was gutted she didnt get under 60 seconds.Had an issue in the practice when a boost pipe went.

had my camera kit on the evo 7 but for some reason EVERY SINGLE file was corrupted! It worked fine to the end of the pitlane then it starts playing up when on track then as soon as the car gets back into the pitlane its fine again mad
only got trackside videos frown

Thats a good time then for a 19yr old design of car on a circuit that really is not ideal for it.

Thats amazing/shocking! Where is all that power going? Caterhams with k-series engines are lapping KH quicker than that!

Thoroughly enjoyed it - was up in the tower doing some opping and announcements etc. Not seen drifting or Time Attack live before and wasn't sure what to expect but thought it made for a pretty impressive sight!

Also Col, do tell Iain that I know I had promised to plug you guys on the tower but I'm suffering a dose of man 'flu at the moment and it totally slipped my mind! Apologies all round and will remember next time I'm on for Speed Sunday (on a Saturday...)
