Did anybody attend this event? I was on one of the floats and was hoping that someone may have taken some pictures that we could look at?

Cheers
Chris

Not good:

"Anyone with information about the incident is being urged to contact police."

yes naetype, it was tragic that the torcher parade was cancelled due to the accident down union. For those involved we had spent the whole day working on the floats only for it to be cancelled after about 30 minutes, i was just wondering whether anybody had any good pictures of the floats etc whilst they were going past. Unfortunately, a lot of hard work is going unnoticed due to the events of the day. It is of course totally understandable.

I was at the place it happened a few minutes before. There was 3 people on the bike who had been messing around, driving in circles and stuff like that. Two young boys (probably the 11 and 13 year old) were on the back without helmets. Walked up union st, and saw the police coming down, they decided to leave fast, went down the wrong side of the street at 45mph, car was turning off and they went straight into it. There was a massive bang and three went over and the bike went over and went into people in the crowd. From what I saw the older person on the bike was the one most hurt. The fuel tank on the bike was ruputured, or there was a very strong smell of fuel anyway.

Glad to see the Grampian Police responding to the public's calls with some urgency.

You just couldn't make it up!!

This is the sort of crime the Police should be clamping down on. Not trying to catch the motorist travelling 5mph over the limit!!

Surely CCTV must have seen these kids messing about? Why did the Police not respond earlier?

I'm not sure what to say. They had been stupid and should have been stopped, but it was only when the police started chasing them that they decided to leg it and caused the accident. There wasn't loads of people there for the parade compared to what I've seen in the past, but it was far busier than normal which is why I think they didn't go after them initially. Probably they should have gone after them slowly, got them to a quieter place and then properly chased them where it was only themselves they would injure.

What is odd is they said they 'responded to all the calls' i was on a float and the police were literally everywhere, so it couldn't have taken long to get to the scene.

In their defence, it must be seriously difficult to stop a motorcycle without causing injury.
Either way, the actions of a few idiots ruined the whole event and charities have lost out on a lot of money.
