Er, just noticed this and it's where 95% of Scottish fuel comes from so might be worth just topping that tank soon in case it really does get serious.......

If 1000 people do go on strike then it's likely Grangemouth will be closed down for the duration.

"The management of Scotland's only crude oil refinery have started shutting it down after claiming a strike later this month will compromise safety.

Ineos said its refinery at Grangemouth would be closed for "at least a month", and warned the country to expect major fuel shortages.

About 1,200 members of the Unite union are to strike on 27 and 28 April in a dispute over pensions."

Probably not good.

Why can't they get it into their thick little empty mushy skulls that everyone running out and panic buying fuel like their is no tomorrow only engineers fuel shortages.

Can't we just shoot these fools on the spot, and the media that propagates this nonsense!

True, a good few of them on Reporting Scotland earlier. Mostly all women, who collectively probably only do about 1,000 miles per annum, all filling their tanks to the brim.

Brainless idiots.

Hope the trip goes well and you manage to get enough fuel for the cars. Least it's not the main run with all the cars I guess?

This is bloody typical, I'm coming home for three weeks next month and I'm planning an entire holiday of hooning and general wastage of resources.

If I'm stuck at home I'll have to decorate and sort the garden out.

Alternatively I could go to the pub... scratchchin

But what if there are beer shortages too!!! yikes

jesus christ, I was under the impression that it was the general concensus that there is so much in the way of reserves it will not effect us!

Thirded - At 19mpg I spend most of my time at petrol stations. I may have to dust down my bicycle, or work from home. Which reminds me, I must remember to start leaving my laptop at work ... hehehe

I think it will be OK. The Govt cannot be seen to be not mediating on a problem that could, if it were to go on for ages, bring the transport network to it's knees.

It does show up our dependencies though........

The queues for fuel at the Tesco in Dunfermline were getting silly yesterday at one point the police had to be called!! I drove up at 1100 this morning with no queues and got fuel. The really funny part was going into Tesco itself and watching all the idiots filling their shopping trolleys with tinned food. The slightest mention of problems with fuel people assume armageddon is just around the corner!

Don't work at Grangemouth but I understand that there is sufficient stocks of petrol and availability of importable petrol to ride out the inconvenience of the shut down - as long as people don't start panic buying.

If panic buying breaks out then it won't be a problem with lack of fuel, it will simply be that the fuel will not be able to be delivered quickly enough to the garages that require it. So try and pass on the message as widely as you can that people should just act as normal.

Grangemouth has reserves in the region of 3 and a half weeks of standard petrol usage, there are also a number of 'secret bunkers' around the coutry brimming with the stuff.

And if worst came to worst, they're still refining the stuff down south, so it could be tankered up. But it's not going to get to that stage.

The gullible idiots seem to think that coz they went to their local Tesco and it had no diesel left, that that means there's no diesel left anywhere.

All it actually means is that Tesco has got it's standard delivery of diesel in, and it's been used up much quicker than normal by idiots who are panic buying.

PANIC BUYING CAUSES FUEL SHORTAGES!!!!
