Firstly, enjoyed a great night out in Glasgow on Sat night. Somewhere in the 'West End' - big pub on a cobbled street that we also went back to Sun morning for brekkie.

And then off to Stranraer for the ferry back to NI. yikesyikesyikes

This has to be the longest continuous average speed camera section in the world!!!!! Seriously, it must break some kind of feckin' record. Left Glasgow with what I thought was plenty of time - ended up getting there with 15 mins to spare!!!

My commiserations to any of you that have to do this journey regularly!! Such a potentially great road as well!

Used to be an awful 4 lane SC.
Now it is an awful 4 lane DC.

Biggest problem was adjoining junctions at right angles.
Lots of variation in speed of traffic.
Poor weather susceptibility.
Poor surfacing.
If there was an accident it often spilled into oncoming traffic.

That's only the top section.

Most of the A77 covered by average speed cameras is still single carriageway.

I think the OPs point was that, over the whole length, there is a large increase in journey time caused by driving within the speed limit over the whole route, not just that top bit.

It is a bit of a joke especially when you get stuck behind someone doing 45mph.
Lorries are only allowed to go at maximum of 50mph on the SC, so to overtake you need a loooooooooooong straight... which there are about 3 of!

I think you'll find that HGVs are restricted to 40 mph on all single carriageways... which makes following them more of a pain but overtaking them slightly easier (if there isn't another 40mph convoy coming the other way, that is...)

Never seen an HGV do 40 on a SC, all the ones up here are travel right up to their limitter.

I meant the national speed limit as you well know.

You're right nobody does in, but in the speed camera stretches, maybe they have to...

Is it 40?... oops I stand corrected.
I've seen me blasting by them, then having to slow down to make sure the average is maintained... madness
