Hi,

my sister has a VW T4 Transporter in a unique colour known as "Scarab Green" - the paint colour used for all Glasgow City Council vans. There are a few stone-chips she wants to touch up but no one sells the touch-ups pens in this colour. Also went along to the VW dealer who said they didn't stock paint for such a low volume run of vehicles in that colour.

She does however have the paint code/offical name - would a bodyshop be either able to source this paint for an aerosol can/touch-up pen, or mix paint and provide it in a touch-up/aerosol can?

Cheers,

Agar

Go to any automotive paint supplier with said van, they should have hundreds of swatches of green so you can match the paint and they will be able to create a spray can.

Who are the "big" names in automotive paint supply that i may find around the Glasgow area - there is a Brown Bros near me, although i don't remember them being able to mix paint?

AGAR, I don't suppose you know/can find out the name of the bodyshop that does the repairs on them when they get damaged? If you do/can I'd have thought they could help you out, especially if the Council has a large fleet which means they might be regular visitors to the bodyshop.

the paint code is usualy on a plate - somewhere like door post etc -and most paint places can mix to that code . Failing that ,why not find out if GCC have a transport section -and ask them - only takes a call

20 fags to the guy in "tha Cooncil" spray booth would probably get a bonnet sprayed at lunchtime!

AGAR, yes, I'd expect the Council have a Transport Manager who's responsible for their fleet.

The responsibility for accident repairs has probably been contracted out to a local bodyshop, so it'll probably be more like 40 fags biggrin

ETA unable to quote who me ? properly

Late to the party......just got the car repaired after the wife reversed into a wall..(Yes I have rear parking sensors...don't ask!)
Got it done at Duddingston Coachworks in Edinburgh.....while I was there they were paint-matching a Renault Avantime ,pretty awkward by all accounts, but they got there in the end.Very impressed with the work on my car,and the Renault looked good too....highly recommended if your struggling on the West coast

Thanks Huge - going to ring around a few places tommorrow. Edinburghs not all that far, so may well be worth a try.
