Who's for it? smile

A gathering of as much horsepower and RPM as we can muster, and a few circuits of the Clyde Tunnel at full volume. No speeding or dangerous driving, and I don't think there's too much of a built up area around the tunnel - so I can't see BiB having too much of a problem if everyone's sensible.

Has it ever been done before? Are there any other tunnels that might be as good as the Clyde Tunnel? If it's flat out illegal, fair enough, but after watching a few Tunnel Runs on youtube, and driving through the Clyde Tunnel tonight, it's just got me thinking/scheming smile

Best advert for the Clyde Tunnel ever smile

I've never organised anything like this, or even a get-together / social drive. I don't mind giving the organization a shot though. How about we use this thread as a "base", where we can gauge interest for a bit, get ideas or advice, have a chat about it and see how it pans out? Anyone more experienced or keen in the organisation department, feel free to take over smile

I only drive a 2.5 Z4, so I'll be listening to the revs more than I contribute no doubt, but it still sounds like a blast. I'll mention on any other car boards that I think this would be worthwhile mentioning on, and point any interested parties in the direction of this thread. If you guys do the same, I'm sure our collective brainpower can come up with some ideas.

Like I say, as the tunnel isn't too near a built up area, the police shouldn't have a problem so long as everyone behaves. My nightmare scenario is a few numpties turn up, do stupid things, and being the organiser, I get sent to Guantanamo Bay or something. I'll try to PM anyone who's organised something like this before and see their thoughts. The more organised and sensible we appear, the louder we can revvvvvvvvvvvvvv...mmm smile

Used to go through that every other day in the Mr2 with the t-bars off.

Makes a nice howl on my custom exhaust and 7K revs biggrin

Would definitely be up for a bit of this in the V6.

hi there
I would be interested in it. I have a countach qv and taken it through the tunnel a few times but most of the sound is behind so dont get the effect! Would be nice if someone can organise a video cam with proper sound and stable pic and follow the cars through
I agree MUST be legal but that should be simple to do as there is no law that says you cnat drive at 30/40 whatever the limit is in first gear or blip the accelerator in neutral!!
Let me know when youare proposing and where to meet? possibly on South street at Partick exit as nearest to tunnel and loads of space to park?

Paul
i have a bullet cam set up with remote mic thats pretty decent.although havent tried it static yet.
gets pretty decent sound from above the exhaust.

and under bonnet

although it has a habit of going black and white in low light so i donno how good it will be through the tunnel.

would love to go along to this if anyone wants a passenger biggrin

I live about 10 seconds from the Tunnel so could bring the Cobra or Subaru, most likely the Cobra though. Some in car footage would be great however I think we would need to have a camera set up on the tunnel exit to catch the cars, what do you think?

Could we make it a Tunnel run followed by a drive for lunch somewhere local? Just a thought. Would be great to see the QV Paul, I'll need to get a passenger ride if poss as I'm a diehard Lambo man!

Hi guys

Lunch would be fine. Would this sunday be too early to try to organise it? would be better when roads may be quieter or alternativley an evening?

would have to ask one of my video expert mates. He has professional euqipment and does video editing for music videos. I thought an externaly mounted cam or sundroof mounted and external mic. the main noise will be in middle of tunnel?

Isnt something i have any experience of and just chucking in ideas for comment, and am very concious was someone elses idea in fisrt place so they should have first call and respect their views

if time permits happy to give people a passenger run but may bring along a mate with me

guys
spoke to the tunnel master to see if we could get permission to film usuing a static camera in the tunnel. cant do it as the old saftey rails etc have been taken down and unless they close the tunnel for us it wouldnt be safe to have pedestrians in it

spoke to my video expert! Brain still numb! In short strap a tripod to a seat with camera out of window pr preferably sun roof; suction cup mount to roff or bonnet; digitally stabilised cam corder, with best possible pic quality; wide angel setting on lens and optomised for dark. the rest is mush in my brain!

Sunday forecast is snow!

If is perhaps not the best day for a run?

However this is Scotand and the weather and forecasts change every 20 minutes!

Paul, Remember we want your car looking like a Countach, not R2-D2! biggrin

A camera inside the tunnel would have been brilliant, different directions, ooft!

PS. Tunnel master? Now thats a relaxing job!

Oh and i may be away this w'end frown

surely we couldnt take over one of the braehead car parks as a main meeting point for some static ones if we are doing it late on when its quiet? then head down to the tunnel?

I like the idea of a meet/tunnel-run, then lunch or a little drive somewhere. It'd be good to meet somewhere that we can grab a coffee and chat cars whilst waiting on everyone to turn up, but a McDonalds carpark has a bit of a boyracer feel to it. Any suggestions?

I'm also just assuming that the Clyde tunnel is best for this. Are there any other/better tunnels in Glasgow? After the tunnel, a drive over the Erskine Bridge for a run over the GlenFruin road could be fun.. about 70 miles round trip from the tunnel I think, so that would fill a couple of hours. How does that sound? Would a day/evening run be better, and is there anywhere that anyone could recommend for a drive to that we can grab a coffee or something?

As for filming, I'll just be taking my handycam and having a passenger film whatever they can. If we all share any footage we get, we should get some good shots and can edit together something good (even if you have no camera, Sony Vegas is free for 30 days, so you could have a shot at putting something together). My car is booked into the dealers for Mon, so this Sun isn't good for me (no ABS or DSC.. eek).

is Glenfruin road the one that was built to transport warheads etc? It starts just after Cameron House? If so, I drove it last week, MY GOD!

McDonalds isnt good, lets just bin that idea cos I dont have a stereo in my car so would feel out of place with all you boys sub-woofing it up biggrin . Theres plenty of places in the west end.

That's the very one. As close as you can come to a rollercoaster on the road. High quality surface, amazing views and great dips and bends. Here's a few pics for anyone that's not driven it: http://www.funroads.co.uk/scotland/centscotland/20...
