Unmarked Traffic Cars - An Early Warning
Discussion
Hi all
I figured here would be the best place to put this, as i think it's only the north of Scotland that will suffer from this.
Apparently, both Grampian Police and Northern Constabulary have started a new system of unmarked traffic cars. Instead of bulk buying 5-series BMWs and V70 volvos, they've now introduced what is essentially a company car scheme for its officers. they are given a list of vehicles with a much wider choice than is currently availble, they then pick the car, BiB order it and it is delivered straight to them. The principle is that it is used the same as a company car, ie used for both business and personal.
These cars are almost un identifiable as unmarked traffic cars (i'm sure we can all recognise the current crop of Omegas and Volvos). A friend of my dads is a traffic cop for Grampian, and he has just taken delivery of a new Saab 9-3 Aero. No extra ariels, pop up lcd board on the back parcel shelf, and very well hidden blue lights.
This means it becomes a bit of a bugger spotting them, and remembering what they are as now they'll just look like a rep-mobile. As far as i know this has just started, but i would expect it to take off in the next few months.
Now's the time to keep an even closer eye on your mirrors and those wee hiding holes on dual carriage ways.

In the West of Scotland a mobile speed camera / revenue van creeps around from the back it looks like a highway agency van yellow and black stripes and even an Orange flashing light on the roof.
It's not until you have passed it that you notice the 'Community Safety Trust' markings.
It often sits in Fairlie at a blind bend on a wednesday afternoon

Apparently, there are a fleet of Black A3's floating about too - the only identifying marks being small numbers in the rear screen.
The A96 Aberdeen to Inverurie has been marked as a hot-spot. Speed there at your peril.
That's me getting the train home next monday then. Anyone want a MR2 Turbo The A96 Aberdeen to Inverurie has been marked as a hot-spot. Speed there at your peril.
ETA I don't actually speed. Although tailgaters make life difficult for me
