Hello,
This summer I did a banger rally and have a bit of a bug now, but buying bangers tends to have some work involved.
Therefore I've decided I need to learn how to weld. I'm doing a motor mechanic workshop in Feb biggrin

However, I'm confused about the types of welding, which would be easiest, most suitable for cars?

Does anyone know any courses run in Scotland? I've seen a few in England and would have my transport paid for by work.

Thanks smile

Motherwell College do courses.

Best to get a good quality MIG set.
Easy to work and little training needed.
Buy a good auto darken helmet, it makes a big difference to your welding.

Thanks for that, the Aberdeen one is really cheap too, but I'd miss the 3rd & 4th lesson as I'll be on my mechanic course lol. I'll give them a bell and see if it matters.

My mate is going to teach me the basics, he's brave! lol.

I just dont want to cock it up and end up doing a Flintstones impression after the floor falls out of my van half way across Russia laugh

Get some scrap weld it together and then beat shit out of it with a hammer While you might get a nice pretty bead you might have bugger all penetration which means no strength

I agree, get some scrap and have a go.
It is not hard.
