I was wondering if there are any Vets on here that can advise.

Last month I got a puppy yorkie terrier for my mum. We had one previously and when he came home he did nothing but bark/yap from day one. But this new one.... nothing. The only time he has has a wee cry was when he ran into the wall chasing a toy (my fault yes but the wood floor is also to blame).

Is this quiet normal? I know I should be happy in the fact he ain't yapping to all hours. He has plenty energy and plays as soon as he wakes till he sleeps but I expected a few barks by now.

Any ideas?

I am not a vet but....
Our border terrier took at least 6 months maybe even a year to develop a decent bark. At 8 weeks she could only make a pathetic effort, almost inaudible. She is noisy enough though (at 3 years old). I wouldn't worry so long as she eats well and has plenty energy.

frown It wasn't a toy tractor was it? If so, the symptoms may be merely psychosomaticwobble

If the pup is doing everything else normally, ie eating, drinking, passing water and faeces, growing, and level of activity, then, yes the pup is probably fine, just a quiet soul maybe. If you have any worries about its behaviour, then get your vet to check it out. I would have advised a check-up anyway so that you get the pup registered at your vets, even if the pup didn't need vaccinating.

As for you Mr laughlaughlaugh Still with the tractor jokes laugh People are going to think you are nuts laugh

Suppose to let others into the secret....

Last Nov my dad ran over the top of my mother with a tractor putting her in intensive care and killing my dog in the process. She's back up on her feet again and had a hip replaced. But needless to say my dad will never be let near tractors again. Can laugh about it now. He regularly gets a wee ribbing now and again.

Holy shit!! Just realised it will be 1yr tomorrow that it happened!!! Should I get them a gift?? laugh

shout Thevet!! Are you about? I have another question.

Just off the phone with the folks. Apparently the little bugger has now taken to eating his own faeces if my parents are not quick enough to stop him (which won't be easy as they are in their 70's)!!!

Why is he doing that? He has had his check up and injections and everything is ok.

Coprophagia.....disgusting habit especially if your pooch decides it wants to give you a lick afterwards. It won't do the dog any harm, best line of attack is to lift any poop as soon as it is done, which can take a bit of practice if you're not used to waiting for a dump to happen. Often their diet is too rich and so, slightly undigested as it reappears, so trying less expensive food or a good dried food such as Royal Canin, can help. I'll ask a few more questions from the small animal department tomorrow!
There's an answer closer to home, the wife tells me feeding them some pineapple in their food works.
