I was driving to my folks last night at about 9:30pm and the south bound lane of the A9 was closed due to a serious accident about a mile or south of the Tore roundabout. There seemed to have been a few cars involved and some were looking badly damaged. There were 3-4 police vehicles at either end of the closed section so I'm presuming it was a fatality frown

This time of year is notorious for a jump in accidents (as confirmed by my dad who's ex-police). The cold road surfaces and often the first serious but of rain for a while loosening crap on the road make for a very slippery surface, even in the absense of snow/ ice. We should all take extra care. Be safe. I know I'm far more aware of the potential dangers after my incident a couple of weeks ago...

How the hell do people crash on the approach to an accident. Surely it should be obvious from a distance that there is a problem?

Found out not long after posting the link that it was my cousin's partner who was killed in the accident. Experienced rider who unfortunatley was in the wrong place at the wrong time when the car cut across in front of him.

RIP Steven. A good guy and will be very much missed by all the family xxx

Sorry to hear that Avril.

I lost a mate in a biking accident years ago, hence the reason I no longer have a motorbike. Safer on 4 wheels.

U doing ok Cousin Avril? ;-)

(For all that look in, Im Avril's "cousin" when she has a passenger for any the American car runs)

(Cat is out of the bag now mate)

Thank's folks. My cousin is bearing up, but then I imagine it has not hit her yet.

You always hate hearing about accidents involving bikes (and cars you know). I hung my helmet up a few years back. I too have lost many friends, and I don't think I have seen my parents more relieved when I did. You have to have eyes in the back of your head on the roads these days.

my condolancies mate. Good idea to hang your lid up, i've lost 2 mates on bikes and i keep trying to convince the others to stop riding but they won't.

I'm on the A9 a lot and the standard of driving in general is a shambles, often resulting in a tragic end such as this.

For what its worth you have my sympathies as well.

I hate hearing news like this and with Black Isle roots as well i know its an inevitability on an almost weekly basis, in the back of my mind i always hope its nobody i know.. biased i know, i also know the shock when it is... He was ages with me too and i still have pals (and brother) who still ride daily as well.

Steve worked for the Hydro with my colleagues near Inverness. Everyone in the office is in shock at the tragic accident. Condolences to the family and his partner.

Rumor mill says a driver stalled turning right from the fast lane. Hence no brake lights and no warning for traffic behind. Terrible.
