A little further afield but I've only heard good things about Classic Restorations in Alyth, Perthshire. Down the Braemar road to Blairgowrie and then you're a couple of miles further out the road.

They do have a good reputation but you will certainly pay a "full" price for it. Certainly a good place for advice about what can be done.

There is a place in Pitcaple just outside Inverurie that is a VW specialist, spoken to the fella, seems a decent bloke, never had any work done there however, may be worth a shout, apologies don't have any contact details.

hello! yay thanks for asking for me R smile

Yeah its my car that needs restored, no doubt its going to need all the usual things - heater channel, new doors, a few other body panels replaced and defintely some mechanical work and welding done.

Has anybody got even the roughest clue in the world how much this is going to cost? I just kind of need an idea BEFORE i tow it/trailer it all the way to some place to get an estimate, cos if the estimates too much it'll be towed/trailered all the way back home again!

x

Nice looking bugthumbup, to be honest with beetles they are so simple to work on even when removing and replacing panels, it is mainly labour costs that are the biggest expense, I have had lots of beetles in the past and have done most of the mechanical work myself as it is very simple. All the replacement panels ie heater channels, door skins, floor pans are actually not that expensive, reckon it would be worth checking out the place in Pitcaple and asking them for a quote, they may even be able to give you a ball park figure.

I was at Classic Restorations in Alyth with a Ferrari for a quote on having a couple of seat bolsters replaced/refurbished and the estimate was over 750 quid plus vat. Most of the cars in there are Rolls/Jag/Bentley types and the prices & budgets seem set at that type of level. I think unless money isn't much of an object then I would look somewhere else to start with.

wow thanks for all the replies guys. Classic Restorations does look like a pretty expensive place and pretty far away too. I think I'm going to speak to the guy at Pitcaple again. I went by not long after I got the car and had a chat and he seemed pretty keen. Just thought I'd check with everyone here to see if they know if he's any good or know of any other places so I can keep my options open smile

hey everyone, sad to say I gave in to my lack of money and time and sold Betty. She's off to live in Callander now frown
