as a regular rider at another show the sporting bears provide dream rides at, i feel inclined to say to drivers/prospecting riders alike, it is money well spent!
it is an event where everybody benefits. the drivers get to drive and enjoy their car on a great route, the passenger pays the donation to charity and gets to ride in a car which they might want to own at some point or madly lust after and the charities get a big cheque at the end to help sick kids in need. a truly great idea if ever there was one!

thats one hell of a line up of cars Nigel! yikes i can only hope Kimbolton will be just as good!

With 9 days to go there is one change to the line up at Thirlestane on Sunday 3 June. The GT40 is not going to be making an appearance unfortunately. However I am on the trail of a Lamborghini to replace it. I'll post any other changes on this thread. It's quite nerve wracking waiting for the day and keeping up with our volunteer drivers' availability. The list may change for various reasons - sold the car, mechanical difficulties, family committments etc, etc. Hope we get lots of support on the day from Dream Ride passengers. Could be your chance to be on TV as I believe BBC will be filming.
See you there, Mummy Polar Bear

Thanks Brian for your good wishes. I think I'm right in saying you don't have a Scootacar but we have one available for Rides! Mummy Polar Bear

Hi Steven - Good to hear from you. It's a wee while since you were at the Edinburgh MG Club but I see your interest in cars continues. Having had a couple of Honda's might I suggest you come along on Sunday the 3rd and take a Dream Ride in our special Honda S2000 which was created for Honda's 50th Anniversary with every component unique to it. Hope to see you at Thirlestane Castle. Fiona, MPB

Evening All, With only 3 days to go things are beginning to get exiting for me as organiser. As anticipated the line up is changing by the day. The BMW M3 has been sold while the Lotus Exige is being replaced by an Elise S2. The Pontiac has just pulled out because the big end has gone while the Le Mans Bentley has dynamo problems. However I have got one and possibly two Bentleys as replacements. What it is to have friends in car clubs. So I expect around 20 cars to be at Thirlestane on Sunday 3rd June with Ferrari, Porsche and Lotus being well represented. It would be great to have support from across Scotland and for our volunteer drivers to be able to share their wonderful cars with lots of you.

Great news. After several days of cars calling off because of mechanical problems I have heard that Mal Nicholson's replica Ferrari P4 racer has arrived in the Borders and will be at Thirlestane Castle tommorrow (if you live in the Borders you may have heard it!) Best news I've had for days. It looks like it will definitely be doing Sporting Bears Dream Rides tomorrow which is a fabulous opportunity for some folk to experience this car and will raise money for children's charity.
Reported 0-60 time is under 3 seconds!!clap

Thanks for the interest. It was a very succesful day and the rain stayed away apart from a few drops blowing in the wind. We had 21 cars doing Sporting Bears Dream Rides during the day and drivers and passengers had a good time. Saw a passenger getting out of a Ferrari F430 with a smile that looked like it would take months to wear off. Our drivers gave more than eighty rides and raised over £2000 for the children's charity REACT. Cars ranged from the Mal Nicholson's 206mph replica Ferrari P4 racer to Messerschmit and Scootacar microcars. Both ends of the spectrum were very popular. Young kids loved the microcars, never having seen anything like them before. Older kids enjoyed the Ferraris, Porsches, Aston Martin, Honda and Lotus. Those more mature folk who refuse to grow up loved the classic Bentley, E-Type, TVR, Cobras and Morgan. Thanks again to all the drivers and passengers who supported us.clap

It was a great day out and a real pleasure just to be there - really well organised and everybody was very friendly. Can't wait to do it again.

Special credit I think to the show marshalls who made sure we had priority in and out with our passengers.

The tune to "Chitty chitty bang bang" will stop ricocheting around inside my head, any day now (I hope).

Bang, bang, chitty chitty...... Don't know what you mean about bang bang that tune. Most of the time it was drowned out by Graham testing the rev-limiter on his Honda S2000 or Mal running his Chitty chitty bang P4 racer engine including backfires BANG!. I suppose the guy driving Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is immune to the music by now Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, I love you like shop workers are. Oh No. Just reminded myself of Noddy Holder musicSo here it is, Merry Christmas, everybody's havin fun ..... Aaaaargh! Thanks to all participants who have sent emails - you all seem to be up for it next year. Put 1 June 2008 in your diaries, assuming we are asked back...fine four-fendered friendweeping
