From the Kames thread, it is clear that we are not the only people who are nuts and give their cars names - I thought it might be fun to share the origin of these?

To kick off, Brian the G4 is so called because he was purchased with the money a certain PwC partner called Brian gave me as a 'leaving present' - I got a new job 6 days later, so did the responsible thing and blew the cash on the car I always wanted. This is why Brian's rear number plate bears the legend 'Kindly donated by PricewaterhouseCoopers'...

I will leave Broomsticklady to explain why the G32 is called 'Roger'...

OK - Roger is Roger cos the first time I drove him I couldn't get any gears, I couldn't see. I hated the looks of the poor boy - I hated the whole car! So when asked how I enjoyed my first trip, the slightly exasperated tired fed up response was along the lines of '"have sex with" the Ginetta' - hence Roger!! And it's stuck! And now I love him - to bits!! More than David if you ask me at certain times - like 56 second Dounes!!

Oh yes - and for those who have NO idea what a Ginetta Broomstick looks like, I have found a picture and updated my profile!! Thanks Mr Thompson for the piccie!!

I once read in an interview that Lemmy from Motorhead once had a car called 'You B*rst*rd!' - I have had a few over the years that deserved such a name. I also read somewhere of an MGB called 'Apollo 13', because everytime the owner went out in it he was lucky to get home again...

Well according to numerous commentators it seems my car is called Sylvia mad

It is a Sylva !

I have given it several other names, mostly unprintable, usually when it (with my assistance) has done something bad, like emptying the contents of the sump at Kames

My first car was 'The Fiat'

Then 'The Alfa'

Then 'The Honda'

and now 'The Alfa'

My mate used to have an H reg Escort. We called it the F40 because it had a spoiler on it. Well, we were 17 at the time...

eek that's louder than a certain Lotus 7

"Roddy the Radical" was so called coz when my secretary saw a photo of it she said "That's just a Noddy car!"

What little remaining credibility would have evaporated if it’d been Christened “Noddy” so an alliterative substitute was called for...... mind you it might have just been re-Christened “Ben Elton”

Car names here are always the name of the car. e.g. Landie, Beemer, Golf, Porker.

Boring, I know... But ever since I was knee high to a fender I always wanted to say "Shall we take the Aston?" and I just can't bring myself to say "Shall we take Ermintrude?"

ETA - Love the Dam Van post hehe

My first car, mk1 Renault Clio of 1.2 might, was known as "the Clio". Imaginative.

The Swift was known as the crisp packet due to how badly it got blown about in the slightest of winds.

The Glanza never picked up a name.

My green celica is a carlos sainz edition hence known as "the C.S."

The black one is an st205 hence it is called the faff, as probably half the GT4oc call theirs.

Never named the BMW.

My golf's reggy end in SCF so he is called Skiff.

Now moving on to my girlfriends cars: Angelica -> Duke -> Duchess Ebu laugh
