Two new petitions against road pricing - specifically for Scotland. Both started by Nancy Gardner from Stirling - well done Nancy.

Not much support so far, but it can't be easy to publicise these things, so if anyone feels strongly about the issue (!) please sign up.

Even if the powers-that-be ignore them, every vote helps to build up a wall of opposition, and it might eventually dawn on our "rulers" that they've got the entire road policy hopelessly wrong.

Cheers,
Ian.

After I signed the Scottish Conservatives petition I recieved this e-mail which gives some info on the situation in Scotland.

Thank you for taking the trouble to add your name to the e-petition against the Government’s road tolls plan.

As you will be aware, here in Scotland the Liberal Democrat Transport Minister, Tavish Scott, is an even more enthusiastic supporter of a nationwide spy-in-the-sky scheme than the Labour Party.

I had hoped that good old Scottish common sense would break through when the issue was debated in the Scottish Parliament last Thursday. The Scottish Conservatives initiated that debate so that the Scottish Parliament could send a clear message opposing this scheme.

But we reckoned without the Lib-Lab Pact. It chose to amend the Conservative motion against the nationwide tolls with their own proposal, backing Scotland being a test-bed for the scheme. The Lib-Lab proposal succeeded; there are more of them than the rest of us. So much for the First Minister’s assurances that there were no plans for a trial north of the border!

The Lib-Lab Pact seems quite happy with this intrusion into civil liberties. It is content with a regressive tax being levied in Scotland that will hit families and drivers on the lowest incomes hardest. It is positively enthusiastic about Scotland going it alone.

Thousands of people the length and breadth of the country have joined you in condemning these plans. The more that sign, then the louder your voice. I would encourage you to send this reply to you friends and colleagues, and get them to join in the petition at: www.scotlandsaysnototolls.com

With best wishes,

Annabel Goldie MSP

Leader of the Scottish Conservatives
