Help me plan our Scotland trip
Discussion
Hi all,
Looks like we may have the use of my parents in Newcastle as childminders over the end of term week (w/c 9th April).
Thought me and the missus might spend some time in Scotland. Has been a long time since I was last there (bar a flying trip to gordon's) having been down in the Midlands 10yrs+ now and not sure my missus has ever been.
We will probably travel up from Newcastle by car on the Monday (probably won't be the porker unless my mother lets me take her boxster S...) and spend 3 or 4 nights.
So...looking for inspiration on where to go and what to do and where to stay etc etc etc. Looking for a relaxing time and taking in some of the sights, not necessarily a city break - quite happy to take in some fresh air.
SO WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO THE SADDO ENGLISH TOURIST LOOKING FOR SOME SCOTTISH INSPIRATION?
PS We're not millionaires so budget will be a factor...

I have been round most of Scotland and IMO the best bits are North West of Loch Ness up to and a little beyond Lochinver. The Scenery up there is astounding and the roads are damn good too.
I hope you enjoy your trip.

Hi there
Depends on how much driving you want to do, but going from experience, my wife wouldn't like to be in the car too much of the time hence I would recommend....
Two nights in Edinburgh - bit of R&R, shopping nice meal etc, then up to Perthshire for another two nights.
Some lovely scenery around Pitlochry and Blair Atholl and some great roads to go with it.
Give me some time and I'll fire up some hotel/B+B recommendations as I'm just heading out the door for a meal myself!
Cheers
Nick

This topic has been visited before. Here is my recommended route.

No doubt there are other equally good itinaries. Try a search on PH.

My parents place has won several awards for it's food and accommodation:

And from someone who appreciates good roads; that's the place to go, for at least one night.
