Today at Knockhill
Discussion
Hi folks!
Took a trip up to KH today, for the final event of the year - the Hot Hatch track day.
I used this day as another practice, taking on board what some of you guys have said before, and trying out slower shutter speeds and different apertures, as opposed to just sticking it in 'Sport' and firing away. I also did my best 'roving-reporter' impersonation, scambling around the circuit like a lunatic from an asylum.
Hope you like the photos, and any critique would be welcomed. Contact me for more info on the shots and if you would like prints.
Cheers,
Iain

how cold was it though, and the two delays for oil spills put a damper on things

Certainly did - frozen to the bone and irritated at the wait - but that's how things go.
One of the things I noticed was how uncharateristically bright KH was - I couldn't go as slow as I wanted to with my shutter - and I'd forgotton the polariser!
(And I missed the corner of somebody's jacket whilst editing the last pic!)
It was the first Hot Hatch that I'd been to - are they normally so disjointed? By that I mean do they always have separate groups that go out for around 15mins, or was this a one off?
Cheers,

The hot hatch days are all like this, 15 minutes or so of mayhem There's a distinct lack of pictures of wrecked cars there though, so hopefully some improvement over the last one I went to: http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f13
Graham, by all means go to a hot hatch day for entertainment, but you're strongly advised to stick with the Hot Marques days (cars supposedly of 10K value and above) and the SIDC days, which are superbly well run

Jeez - look at the BMW!!!!
Fortunately there was none of this on Sunday (AFAIK).

hi how do u find out about these days there seems 2b more than u hear about
Most are usually advertised on the KH website, however, many trackdays are now organised by both the SMRC (Scottish Motor Racing Club) and SIDC (Subaru Impreza Drivers Club), and details can be found on their websites about when they plan to host trackdays.
2007 dates are due out soon. . .

Iain, what's the deal with photography access? Hi-vis = go anywhere as long as you're behind tyres/barriers? Or is it more restrictive than that.

KH is fairly open so being off track and behind barriers isn't too bad. You can stand inside the track too.
No issues at trackdays. I even to a full broadcast standard DV camera once complete with massive manfrotto tripod.
Took my camera to the British GT/F3 round as well. Bit harder to get a prime position for shots though.

I don't think SMRC organise any track days other than the fun day held for the marshals at the end of the season. They do however organise race meetings

Yes - as above, as long as you stay behind the barriers, basically.
Except not on the camera gantries situated around the track - I got a telling off for going up one. . .

I've heard tales about the HotHatch days at KH.
I certainly want to track my S2K next year but it sure as hell won't be on one of those days.
Like the pics. Particularly the last one (minus the jacket you mentioned).

Graham,
My advice would be to stick to the club events.
SIDC events are spot on and expertly arranged by JohnS (who posts here occasionally).
I believe Dreadnought (SP?) sessions (TVROC) are similar but have never attended one.
I had a beer with JohnS last week and (IIRC) the next SIDC day is in March '07 - go for it!
Cheers,
Eric

Crackin' pics by the way.

The text I put on to reinforce that they are my photos, and so no unscrupulous person should nab them, should they wish to do so. However, the purpose of the text is not to ruin the shot - so I shall take your comments on board, and either drop the text to the side of each photo, put in the border, or create myself a Watermark. My holidays start today (yipee), so I have enough time to play around. You may see a compilation album hitting a thread soon . . .
Thanks again,
