Doune Hillclimb September 17th 2006 - Pictures

Hi all!
Had a jaunt up to Doune today to see the hillclimb. I'd never been there before, and was impressed by how close to the action you can get, and also how fast some of the cars go.
My main reason for going was to try out my new D50 - I loved the quick shutterspeeds, but the zoom on the lenses was not all that useful! A small selection is shown below - I only stayed for the practice sessions and came away with almost 300 photos!
Anybody else go? Didn't see anybody PH-looking, but then again. . .

Nice work Iain. It was a bit of a grey day so you have done well. You should post/link these in the photography section of PH aswell.
I was at Doune along with another 24 elises, many of whom are posters here as well. I also saw an evo with a PH logo on the spoiler.

All the elises got to run up the hill at lunchtime in convoy which was cool.

Hi Guys sorry the vette didn't make it but here is the reason,
My own fault, Matt had to stop for petrol at Ingliston, so when he filled up I was to pull out first and did so with enthusiasm! These are big block driveshafts supposidly good for 500hp! I think not! Twisting the driveshaft pulled the hub into the wheel well and may have bent the trailing arm or worse. I will strip it down tomorrow and let you know.
We got to Doune about 2.00pm in the Subaru and headed straight for Garden gate, having a quick look for Renny as I past the start and finish.
Great to see guys like Kenny Allen, Tom McMillan and Alex Graham again, tehy have lost none of their speed! Any way I feel a bit miffed and stupid about teh vette!
But theirs a guy in the States sells driveshafts that are good for a 1000hp, surely they will be ok!

Doune can be difficult to get pictures at! The sections under trees can be very dull.
Great venue though, some of the faster guys graze that wall on the turns at over 100mph! I actually planned to go up and watch this but woke up 10am, turned off alarm then woke up again at 1:30!

Impressed with Ian's pics. I had trouble getting any speed out of my lenses under the trees so had to stay out in the open section (and got wet when it rained !)

It was a good weekend, pity about the constant drizzle on Sunday. We were a bit worried how late it would finish after the barrier damage first thing in Sunday.
Had a chat with the Evo driver and a few of the Lotus guys. Shame you didn't make it up VetteG. That twisted shaft looks bad

Hi Renny, I did get there about 2.00pm but headed straight up to Gardden gate for a bit of the action, I had a quick look on the way passed but couldnt see anyone matching your description.
The driveshaft is knackered but it seems to be confined to that and the bracket for the bottom strut. So I will order new stronger driveshafts and bracket and get it back on the road next time I am home.

Kiltie and I went down on Saturday to have a look with a view to competing there next year, it looks awesome and quite frightening in parts just from the side of the track and I have to give full credit to all the drivers.
The path running up the side of the track makes it a great place to watch, it is possible to get really close to the action, though you don't see too much of the track from most places.
I am still undecided about competing there next year though, it looks very easy to do a lot of damage.

I really wish I had more money so I could get another hillcimb car and get back up Doune.........
