Caught Speeding on the Stepps By-Pass
Discussion
Well I wondered how long it would take. I got caught speeding on the steps by-pass heading ito glasgow for work. I was in a rush and didnt relise just how quick I was going and got caught by an unmarked skoda!!! A bloody Skoda of all things.
I'm such an idiot, but luckily it has made me screw my head on and I havent been speeding atall since then. It has really shown me how easy it is to go to fast, even if it was on a motorway.
I was wondering if any of you PH'ers know what I am likely to get done. I was doing 87mph on a 50mph zone. Its my first driving offense and I have been driving for coming on to 3 years now.
I'm really sh$%ing my pants as if I lose my leicence I wil be feched, as I have to drive to work and i'm about to move to spain and NEED my liecence to get me to and from the office.
I have seen young joy riders on these progreams on cable getting away with fines for dangerous driving and failing to stop but I have terrible luck and i'm dreading losing my bike as it my only form of trasport.
If anyone has any ideas what I am to expect I would love to hear for you.
The worst thing is i'm moving to Spain in Oct and the court case is being held in December and I wont be here. I say's that I can send a solicitor but I dont know if I would be better being there myself.
I'f I had any hair left I would be pulling it out.
Thanks in advance

I got done for 100 in a 70 last year - was also looking at a ban.
I used David Hingston (Inverness - google him) - about the best lawyer for the job - cost less than £200 to employ. (including turning up instead of me in court)
He got me off with 6 points and £200 fine.
I reccommend you speak to him (or similar) a.s.a.p. and he will eplain all the possible outcomes.
You DON'T want to do this by yourself - as the things that you might think will cut you some slack may make it worse.
Speak to a pro (He'll cost nothing for the first phone call) tell him everything (honestly) and he'll tell you your best defence.
Good luck - e mail me if you need more info
Steve

Thanks for the super quick response guys.
I took Steve's advice and contacted my solicitor but he didnt seem too concern to be honest. He said I would probably get 4 points. I dont know how accurate that really is. He said that it depends on the judge you get when you goto the court in Glasgow as some of the judges arent able to ban people and some are.
He told me I should plead guilty and in the explanation section to explain that I have reduced my speed and taken the police officers advice and that I have a clean licence and havent had any traffic confictions before. Also added that I need my bike to get to work as its my only form of trasport and that I am moving to spain and the office is miles away from my house.
I'm not too sure wither to take his advice now after speaking to you guys but I have already filled in the form.
Bloody hells bells I always thought I shouldnt buy a sports bike as I wouldnt be able to stop myself from booting it, but I drive an XJ600N and I got done speeding. I'm a numpty.
I think I might give the solicitor steve suggested a call on monday and see what he has to say. I have a month to send back my reply or turn up at court, so its going to be a stressful month again. ;(

I got caught doing 88 on a B road with 60 limit and got 6 points and £200 fine. I used to drive the Stepps by pass every day and regularly seen either a Skoda or Mercedes unmarked police car.
What really annoys me is that I've seen many a "Max Power" Nova / Corsa / Saxo absolutely flying along that road and there is never any sign of police.
I also got done for doing 40mph in a 30 limit on my GSXR1000, and the cops were absolutely loving it.

Rach if you see a Grey Volvo V70 D5 on the A9 ease off the gas!! The best thing is to look out for extra aerials. Also if you drive roughly around the speed limit they won't mind too much... this is where they are so much better than speed cameras. If you are overtaking in a sensible way with good sighting and your speed goes up to 80 or so as you go past they are unlikley to worry too much so long as you bring it back down again once back on your side of the road.
The cars may be unmarked, but often the drivers aren't! It was quite obvious when the Volvo came up behind me that the driver was wearing white shirt with black stab jacket...
Cheers,
Paul.

You should be OK. Elgin is 40 miles from the A9.

Dont I know it, longest 40 miles Ive ever travelled! Trying not to spend too much time in Elgin, which involves travelling 7 hours to see my mates/family, mucho frustration sat behind caravan brigade!
Thanks Paul, Ill keep my eyes peeled, going to fly from now on I think, drove through the worst rain this weekend, dreading the snow, scares me!

Oi! Less of the Caravan brigade......I've got a caravan and a Porker 911......obviously the two don't go together at the same time.....but you get the idea! I don't hold many folk up when "pulling the van"
sorry, wrong pocket! it is frustrating when you've been on road 7 hours and someone dreaming along holds up lots of people, im sure you have much more consideration and road awareness!
sorry that actually sounds sarcastic, its not meant to be!

Yeah I drove from the Isle of Lewis to Loughborough about 520 miles on Friday which was a bit of a trek seen as I didn't get off the ferry at Ullapool till 15:30, the rain was pretty bad around glasgow at about 9.00 - was getting wheelspin in 5th up hill cos of aquaplaning I went the scenic A82 route though having gone up on the A9. Some amazing streches of road coming down towards Fort William and no speed cameras or traffic really
