Posted on the 'roads' thread, here's a suggestion - any more good ones?

IMHO The Stirling Perth Avimore bit is pretty dire. I HATE the A9... loads of cameras, loads of parked police with cameras and loads of caravans.
As I say... all IMHO

Thanks - I probably went on a good/lucky day - if there are better ways to the sea though let me know - fancy some exploring!
Cheers
Hi Andy
Again IMHO - the great roads are to be found north and west of the A9 - all the way up to Durness in fact.
(my 'best UK roads' site - gives some suggestions) www.stevecarter.com/bestuk.htm
However, there is a road that leaves the A9 (from somewhere south of Pitlochry IIRC) through Crianlarich to Fort William. I've done that once or twice, and although not that quick it's very pretty. On an early Sunday morning it'd be a blast
edited to add (in case you don't know it) the road across Rannoch Moor to Glencoe is a must drive - although it's quite bumpy, with hidden dips - so better done when empty!

Thanks Steve, excellent site btw, thanks for the ideas - doubt my pictures would be that good mind you, unless you are into close-ups of fingers and sharply focussed rain...
Will have to get out and about while the weather holds hence the thread - your route looks good - I sort of see what you mean about the A9 now!
Cheers

Andy - loads of quality Scottish road threads on this forum which I used to good effect last month.
If near the Cairngorms - and agreed that you need to bypass the A9 - try the A939/A93 which I loved; little traffic, great scenery and although the road was a little bumpy at times, still great fun. Still struggles to match the roads Steve talks about though!

In your dash to the coast - don't forget that the Ardmurchan peninsular is only about 100 - 150 miles from Glasgow -great mix of roads - some only way out is that in - other areas a circuit can be worked out , even if it means using ferries.
Totally agree - also Ardnamurchan/Sunart, A861 is magnificent.
