Howday GC, im driving up your way on Thursday for the Sheildaig fete and was just wondering about two things:
1. Is there any favored camera van locations from generally Crainlarich north?
2. What petrol stations offer the best rates north of Fort William? (this is mainly for the way back down south, as the big Volvo tends to drink a bit when pushed).
Any info would be much appreciated.

Hi there
No fixed cameras on the west coast route from Crianlarich, but lots on the easy coast. Mobile cameras anywhere on the A9. very, very ocasionally mobile cameras on the west coast - I've seen one once in six years of travelling up and down the west coast. That was just north of Fort William. I heard that there is sometimes a parked police car in Lochcarron - but the chances are the bobby will be asleep.
Generally speaking the further north you get the more expensive the fuel, so fill up in Fort William. Then every garage you pass the price will most likely go up! Also a lot of the small garages are only open 'bank hours' (I'm sure you know all this).
I'm travelling up as well so may see you at the fete. I'm the ugly bloke with the huge dog and equally huge camera
BTW - If you are there friday evening there is the raft race and the late night bash in the shed. (This is why the fete always starts late, as everone has a hangover).

This is the "official" list of mobile camera van sites but I've yet to actually see a NSCP van anywhere! More likely to come across the traffic car in villages. Fort William by-pass (40 mph) most friday & saturday nights, Spean Bridge as well (30) As a general rule watch your speed in 30s an 40s and you shouldn't go wrong.
As per GC on the petrol front.

Did the raft race a few year back, was all going well until the raft fell apart...and we lost.
Also I have incountered 'the shed' aswell, at 6am on the saturday morning it is never as attractive as it is at 11pm on the friday night .
Keep your eye out for silver V70 just as you enter Sheildaig from the end nearest Kishorn (if you catch my drift), and don't be surprised if a rather tall lanky person ask's you "excuse me are you GC", that might well be myself.
Looking forward to the fete as always, and thanks for the information.
Kind regards

Handy site
Just worried about the A82 as generaly when (if) its clear the foot tend to go down. Also overtaking freight lorries and caravans will cause for obvious increase in speed, and I just don't want to be caught out.
