When vehicle speed is no longer controller by the driver, and instead by onboard AI. Sadly it will probably happen in our lifetime.

Yeah, I thought that myself but the fixings don't look particularly "temporary" - the posts are actually concreted in...

Yup, I have noticed the roadworks on the M74 have gone, but the one remaining thing - yep, the SPECS cameras....anyone know if they will be removed, and if they are still active?

Yeah. Wish they'd get rid of the SPECS cameras on the M8. It's not as if the glaswegian road workers have families or anything. Arrogant sods thinking they can make a living out of fixing our roads.

Would be much better if they put them on the A90 on the run up to the FRB where it is suicide do anything within 20 mph of the posted speed limit. Better yet, wire the things up to a Howitzer to take out the f*****s who feel that it's perfectly OK to do 90 mph through there....

SPECS on the M8?

I drove through from Glasgow to Edinburgh on Saturday and didn't notice any at all...

I'm a bit worried now...

Can someone tell me, does a SPECS do an instantaneous fine as well as an average over distance one? I came up the slip from strathy park onto the M74 where there are no roadworks. Booted out the slip then saw the bloody specs was still there at the side of the road.
I hoped that because there are no road markings like a GATSO that the SPECS doesn't do an instantaneous fine - but then neither do Truvelos apart from the sensors. Half expect someone to say cos its some fancy system that the manufacturers reckon it is always calibrated and doesn't need back up evidence...

I believe SPECS only do average speeds between the cameras. They work on the same technology as the Traffic Master system does, recording a plate at one camera and then the next and doing a time distance calc to work out your speed.

They were on the M62 near my folks years ago and are the best way to keep speed down over a section of motorway. For the record I still hate them, especially when they there is bugger all going on in the road works.

I think they can be fooled by changing lanes as the early ones at least lost you if you switched lanes.

Not exactly SPECS, but watch out for an unmarked BMW 5 series car around the M74-M73 junction, saw it on Monday catching someone northbound. Probably old hat but there is also a dark blue Octavia VRS on the M74, some stealth car that!

may sound stupid but imagine getting two identical cars and putting the same plates on each. say two 03 plate blue feista's and have one drive throught the first spec camera and an identical second one drive through the second one a cople of seconds later!

wonder what speed it would come up with? might the system! haha

There is a very nice silver 5-series driving around the A82/83/85 just now. It features an unusual set of small silvery lights hidden in the front grill and some interesting devices inside the rear windscreen.
Wonder what that could all be

Oh a silver 5 series on the A82, used to be a blue one!.

Best giving both a wide birth, especially around the Dumbarton area where the blue 5 series is prominant.

I assume the SPECS on the M8 you are talking about are the ones just pasted the kingston bridge?

Ive been going through these all week and on the way home the traffic seems to moving faster than it normally does, no stopping and starting or big Q's just everyone sitting at 40mph!

Is that because with SPECS watching you there is no benefit to racing down a clear lane to pull in at the front?
I'm suprised it hasn't had the opposite effect of folk doing exactly that, then holding up the traffic when they realise they need to keep their average time down!

Yeah, thats it.

Does make for a nice relaxing drive though, not having to worry about everyone cutting you up if you leave more than two feet between you and the car in front

Also lookings like it might help me get more than 22mpg out the car this week!
