Last night around 19:00, I encountered a complete idiot in a white MR2.

I was headed west-bound on the A93 (North Deeside Road).

Just coming out of Culter past the Rob Roy Bridge, through the national speed limits apply sign. In front of me was the cock in question and in front of him a bus doing about 45mph.

On the first straight (over taking opportunity) he had a peek past the bus but saw oncoming traffic. Fine so far. As soon as the oncoming traffic was past, he was half way into the right hand lane again looking to go but more oncoming traffic prevented him. He tried it one more time and looked to be a bit too close to the bus.

At this point, I'm feeling a bit wary of him. He's very impatient / in a big hurry so I decided to hang back and let him do whatever it is he's going to do.

Next opportunity is the long Drumoak straight but by the time we're on it, he's hanging back from the bus and doesn't appear to be intending to pass it (bus still doing about 45).

I decide to take the initiative and pass them both but instinct and what I saw earlier tell me to be really careful with this guy.

So, I pull out into the right hand lane but wait for a second or two before accelerating past him (and the bus). I had my side lights on and my right indicator flashing so that I'm obvious in his wing mirror.

He didn't seem to be making a move so I decide to go for it. When I'm half a car's length from being level with him ... guess what ... he pulls out!

I braked hard but had to go closer to the verge than I'd like. When he was clear. I followed him past the bus (could still see the road was clear for half a mile).

On pulling in behind him, I saw the bus driver flashing at us - quite rightly, it must have looked like we were both dicking about.

Pulled in to my drive and he carried on towards Banchory.

Anyway, got home safe - a bit shaky and very angry. I'd toyed with the idea of following him to have a word but that's not my style.

So, moral of the story is that if you see a white MR2 (J*** PEC), give the tt a wide berth.

Cheers,

Eric

Glad you came out of it OK, its my guess he wasn't even looking in his mirror despite you being large in them.

Alls well that ends well.

A guy in front looking to overtake like he was doing isn`t going to be checking his mirrors..I personally would have anticipated that and would have held back...A good lesson there that can be learned no other way than the situation described...
...I bet he was just as scared though...

Had similar a while back but actually made contact with the car pulling out (wing mirror to wing mirror)
I'd followed behind with them missing chance after chance for a while & a considerable string of traffic built up behind before my patience wore thin. There was no damage done to either & the woman appologised.

If I'm in that situation then I hit and hold the horn to make damn sure they know I'm there (like it says in Roadcraft FWIW). Thankfully driving on A-roads doesn't feature much in my life these days...it really is a zoo out there.

Graham,

You didn't happen to notice the registration did you? The reason I ask is that the individual involved in my case has been identified (or at least it's known where he works).

If it was the same person tailgating you then that would indicate he is a persistent cock and maybe needs a talking to before something serious happens.

Cheers,

Eric
