Doune Hillclimb
Discussion
Weather forecast looks HOT for Saturday, although it could all change by the end of the week....
Basically you will see each class practice three times on Saturday. The real fun starts on Sunday - Lothian usually squeeze in a morning practice (to clear the overnight moss from the track), then it will be into the first set of class competition runs. That over, there will be the first of two Top Twelve Runoffs for British Championship points, followed by the second set of class runs and the meeting finishing with a second Top Twelve points chase.
All that said, both days are fun if you are a hillclimb enthusiast - if you are more a casual motorsport fan, Sunday would be the day to go. Also, check out some of the local petrol stations, as Lothian have printed flyers that I think will give £1 off the entrance admission.

Is this still on the National calender?
Might consider the 4 hr drive down if the weather is ok.

It is a National Championship event. See you there!
Over 100 entries at the begining of the week and good weather forcast. I'd better remember the sun-cream

Excellent viewing at Doune - one of the most exciting places to drive / spectate there is. Walk up path next to hill looking down on track, and several good spots to view from. Won't mean much to you for now - check Lothian web site for course layout - Oak Tree corner very exciting, and can see entry to Garden Gate corner. Garden Gate also fast, as is Junction. Hill opens out here and large meadow area to picnic / sit in, to rest before you climb to brow of East Brae - East Brae is a 1:4 blind browed rise with a 90 degree right at top and always good for some action. Doune virgins who've not walked hill before almost invariably forget to turn with inevitable consequences! Hill then disappears into trees and Esses and off to holding paddock - not sure how much of this is accessible to public. Also interesting is the procession down the hill from the holding paddock - not at speed but quite a sight.
Lots of spectators here every event, and the paddock is open and the drivers generally very chatty. And there's decent toilets and somewhere to eat - what more can you want?! Come along!!

90 degree! Its changed a bit since my days, more like a 30 degree right. Start to make your turn at the last brake marker and you will be spot on.
Year after year, Doune used to be voted the best event on the British Hillclimb championship and rightly so. Watching the big boys going between Oak tree and Garden Gate was always my favourite vantage point, only about 6' from the track, the noise is amazing!
Pity I cant make it this time!

Jonathan (Rarity) talks about a 90 degree right in his "how to do it" article

I guess at the sort of speeds he reaches it would feel like that. (I understand it's really about 60 or 65 degrees.)
I agree that after years of spectating you only really appreciate that corner the first time you drive it!
JP (Too old and timid to enter now)
PS Boyndie Sprint next week...Anyone got a spare zzr1100 engine just in case.......
