Thinking about organising a meet for Scottish PH'ers. I am happy to organise something casual - a barbie or similar. Have acres of parking and a fine selection of motors to tempt you all with - Location just outside Ednburgh. All I need is some suggestions on:

1. Dates
2. Activities?
3. Format

Thought it might be a good idea to have an evening bash , and then have a bit of a run into the hills the next day - possibly Moffat and the Galloway hills or into Perthshire.

Any thoughts?

somebody floated this idea around in GG recently, it built up a bit of interest then died.
Should do it though as there is a lack of general stuff up here.

Well, I would be up for it, providing I am in the country.

I would suggest an evening bash followed by a run may not be a good idea due to hangovers but the otherway around would be fine.

Drive first - drink later.

Need to know a suitable date, possibly based around another event in the central belt, and how many want to come. If anyone is interested, drop me an email. If we can get enough interest, I will make it happen.

I'd be up for it too. Off the top of my head, maybe meet at yours for a poke round all your cars and a late breakfast / lunch, then a run in the afternoon finishing up somewhere nice for dinner?

The only event I can think of is the Scottish Italian car day at the end of May in St Andrews, but obviously not everyone owns or is interested in Italian cars.

It's a good idea and I think it would be good fun, but I worry that the fact you've only had three replies in three days speaks for itself. We're such a dour lot!

Hey, this sounds crackin....your the guy doing supercar hire...The barbey sounds the biz, we have the best roads in northern Europe and it`s a good way to kick start the `season` as I`ve done naff all all winter...I`ll check for any intresting events/dates at knockhill or crail that we could invade while out and about..! My motors are far from finished but me and my twin bro could pop by on the bikes to `teach a few lessons`...... ( I am being brave saying that with the Zonda etc in tow )........Good man!!
Pity I`ve not got a ...

some on board cameras would be great for the run.......

The moffat/selkirk road is a beautey.
I will officialy note interest for myself, would be bringing a 328GTB and possibly another interesting car if a couple of jobs come through in the next month.
I will get thinking hat on for an activity or possible tie in.

northo i assume you intend this day partly to promote your business? is there anything in particular you would hope to achieve from a day/event such as this? ie potential client list or press coverage?

It just gets the message out that we are here, as we would like to get a few more enthusiasts using us in Scotland - we like to spread the love around as well. I don't think this is worthy of press coverage. Basically just trying to be sociable...

April or May would do me fine.

As for the drinks/bbq event in the evening would anyone be interested in entertainment ie a band?

What's your going rate for a gig?

Well actually it was why I was asking. Not my act but a band I am working with just now, jazz, swing type group. 8 piece and superb.

Or we could just put that money into a big wine/beer fund and maybe you could sneak us back a new movie reel?

Could we afford the syncopated timing belts though?

As for the venue I thought northo had that covered?
If not there is a cafe at St mary's loch on the Selkirk/moffatt road that sometimes hosts gigs i think.

I have a venue we can use - not the most glamourous location, but plenty of parking space, and space inside if the weather isn't great. I think we should do this in May.

suits me, count me as at least 2.
If the band idea is a popular one I will make enquiries and could even post an mp3 clip for evaluation.

It's on Sunday 28th May, at Craigtoun Park. There's a little bit about it on the Scottish Alfa Owner's Club website at www.alfascot.fsnet.co.uk/alfascot

I've been a few times, sometimes it's good, sometimes not - pretty dependent on getting the right weather to encourage people to take their cars along.

Could we schedule this for the 3rd weekend in May then?
I ahve just been driving in the Borders yesterday and some of the roads were fantastic.
I have a quiet week this week so I can do some organising if need be.

Something along the lines of a morning rendevous in the borders for a good photo opportunity, organised drive route, lunch then drive back to northo's pad for the bbq and entertainment?

Seems like to good an opportunity to miss.

I think it would be fun to meet up (would I need a car that I would admit to owning?)
