Hi all

As per my post in P&P, looking to do a trip round the UK, focusing mainly on Scotland on my bike (motor variety!)

Never been past York going upwards, would like some advice on the best places to visit. Will be doing this solo most likely with a view to get away from it all into the wilderness so unless there is a good reason to do so, I would like to stay out of the cities.

So where to find / avoid and interest?

Many thanks

LS

I can say without fear of contradiction that the A82 through Glencoe on the west coast is one of the best riding and driving roads in the UK. Try it you will not be sorry.

Hi - just browsing and saw your chat - I staying Glasgow - the A82 is indeed a fantastic road however it does start in Glasgow city centre and its not until your well out ( 45 mins )that things get good - so dont worry about not starting at the begining . Anyway , having biked all over Scotland the finest road just has to be the A702 from Galashields to Moffat ( this section is about a 35 mile stretch and also known as the St.Marys Loch area )it is just absolutely breathtaking . It is in the upper borders region about 1 hour south of Glasgow . The road simply awesome the scenery breathtaking - get on this road on a good spring / summer day and I defy anyone to tell me there is a better biking road in the UK . You are doing yourself and injustice coming to Scotland and not travelling this road . ( no speed cameras either !!)

Deer are nice bambi creatures till you meet one head on -- more stupid than sheep, more solid than a cow.
