Big off in Cerbie
Discussion
Just went off on the Kingswells to Westhill road - Straight section short changing up to third and accelerating when the back end stepped out and I failed to catch it. Hit a road sign broadside and that caused the car to roll.
Frightening what can happen at legal speeds when the wheels are no longer in touch with planet earth....
Not sure if it was just the greasy road or rear near side gas shock that failed. It is certainly knackered now!
Walked away with no more than cuts and bruises - car not so lucky but to be honest, who cares as long as we are both okay.

Jesus Andy, that's terrible but I'm so glad you're OK.
Was at Cosco this afternoon around the same time but chose not to go through central Westhill. Wish I had now, I might have been able to offer something ... a like-minded shoulder at least.
Anything Murray or I can do for you? - just shout ... eric.kiltie@petro-canada.com
Cheers,
Eric

Until the insurance company can get it to a specialist I won't know the true extent - although I do expect the worst.
Not a lot you or Murray can do apart from encourage me to get back on the road soon, maybe in something more suitable for the odd hillclimb......
It was one of those days when something bad happens & a load of people you know start stopping to ask if you are okay.
Have to say the police were great and even gave me a lift home after the tow truck had taken her away.

Oh dear, that's not a pretty scene, but if you only had cuts and bruises then that's all the really matters.
My only concern is that this'll result in some P&J photo-fest/'speeding sportscar' type drivel story. I hope not. Were there any photographers there?
Good to see that you are already thinking about what to do/buy next. If you want to hillclimb, my mate's selling his MK1 Fiesta - 170bhp, not a lot of weight, proper suspension set up, cage etc. A good car to learn the hills in and its more than capable of winning the up to 1800 saloon car class now that its got a new engine. He's asking £3000 and he's in Aberdeen if you want to see it.
£3k leaves you plenty to buy something for the road. Maybe an Elise?

Owch, that's nasty, but at least you didn't make the P&J front page. Structure of car seems to have stayed together very well, big relief you remained on the westbound carriageway.....
Surprised it snapped out as savagely as that on straight & level road in reasonable conditions. Could it be mech failure of some sort, as mentioned rear damper failure or something else letting loose in rear suspension suddenly?
Glad you're OK anyway.

No photographers that I am aware of although a few rubber neckers were taking photos with their camera phones.
I stress I was not travelling at illegal speeds and the BiB are happy with that.
That's a relief and good to see the BiB are being sensible.
As I'm sure you're aware, a certain local publication would construe it to appear that because you have car capable of high speed, you were driving far too fast, running over grannies, using your mobile phone, etc etc. Good to see they've kept their noses out of it.
Really sorry to see that, I live in Westhill so travel that section of road nearly every day.
Glad you are ok, hope you get yourself into another motor soon.
Dave
PS I noticed someone wiped out the sign leaving the Westhill roundabout going towards Kingswells. Its massively greasy there too.

Hi guys, lost mine just before xmas,
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=230810&f=15&h=0
heading down motorway, road reasonably straight, violent pull to the right then whack.
Reckon it was a tyre, or mech failure as the back end did not go out, it was more a case of the front end diving 3ft right.
Glad you are ok though

Cerbie,
Terrible news and a testament to the strength of the rollcage fitted that you're ok.
I live in Bieldside and know the Kingswells road & roundabout very well...infact i had a bit of a moment in my classic 911 there just the other day.
Anyway, i remembered reading this thread a week or so ago and it came back into my mind when i was out at Kinghorn on Sat. There was a silver cerbera that had suffered a nearside rear suspension strut failure. Kevin, the guy i was speaking to there told me he thought it had happened on the Kingswells road and, as the pics of your car weren't working last week when i viewed the thread, i wondered if it was yours. I see now that it wasn't but it does make you wonder if there's some form of design flaw. Thankfully, the silver car never flipped like yours.
Hope you manage to find a new car that fills the gap the cerbera has left.
