Nice.

Easier to see the lines from up there, especially through Ruin...

Cheers,

Looking at it from up there Ruin doesn't look very tight, but it feels much tighter when I am on it.

Also shows how non-straight the starting 'straight' is, something I dont think spectators realise when watching from up the hill. That kink can make life very interesting in the wet!

Merry Christmas all.

What do you drive Kev ?

I heard that a single seater once cleared the fence on the left side of the start straight at that kink.

It did a complete forward somersault and landed on its wheels again. Was there when it happened and it scared the s**t out of me because the engine kept running at very high revs when it came down. Made the next run interesting

Got a Cosworth engined Dax Rush but didnt do any competition at all this year and probably wont do any next year due to a new job. If anybody is interested in a fairly high spec, very low mileage, 300 hp Dax, drop me a line.

cheers,

Kevin

Aye, it was Stewart Robb. What I think happened was: he had changed a driveshaft after his first run. As he came off the line, just before the shed (maybe touching 90mph to the ton), the replaced driveshaft wasn't properly located and it came adrift making the car spin round and down into the trees. There was an almighty bang but, as explained above, the engine kept running at full chat.

I know I thought, as did Trevor P who was startline marshal, that he was coming out of there in a body bag. Instead, he got out and walked back to the paddock.

Question from a geriatric! When did they put that bloody big shed there......or is that the new race control?

As a relative newcomer to sprinting and hillclimbs, that byre has always been there, so it has been there at least two years.

It does spoil the view from the hill as you see a car start then it disappears behind the byre then appears again hard on the brakes, I doubt it will be removed to help the view though

I presume you are all talking about Fintray Hillclimb as I can't see the images.

The shed has been there a while. I moved down from Aberdeen in 1992 and it was built shortly after then.

Was the drivers view of Ruin better before the cow shed?

It's now a little blind at the braking point (I almost alway brake too early) and I'm sure past the shed must feel narrow for the big cars...

Cheers,
Ali

In my day, (late 70's & early 80's) there were 3,2,1, posts on the outside (left) of the approach to ruin and very visible.
