Trackdays in Scotland for cheap cars

I'm looking to start doing some trackdays (most likely at Knockhill) next year, but was wondering how many there are that cater for cheaper cars, i.e. a Mk1 Toyota MR2? I know I could easily get the car on to one of the hot hatch days, but I'd prefer a trackday where they enforce the overtaking on the left only, no overtaking in the braking zones etc, which don't always apply on hot hatch days

I know the hot marques days are out of the question, as that's cars of 10K value or more, so what does that leave me with? I wouldn't imagine the SIDC days would be viable either due to the low value of my car.

Any suggestions?

I am sure JohnS will respond re SIDC days, but I don't believe the value of the car is a consideration.

I've driven Knockhill a few times now, including a beginners trackday last July, and 8 laps in a Legend a couple of years ago. I spectated at an SIDC day way back at the start of this year, but seem to remember it was mostly Imprezas/Evos/Skylines - I'm not sure if the owners of these more expensive cars would like to be sharing a track with a 16 year old 1.6 litre (i.e. much slower) car

Hi,

I am in the GMSC, Glenrothes Motorsport Club, and they run a few evening trackdays during the year. The membership is £8 and this gives you a £10 discount on the trackdays which works out at £30 for 2 hours, 3 times a year.

The driving standard is always top notch, I have only ever seen 1 accident when someone rolled there car. Overtaking is on right only or left only whichever is specified on day. Overtaking only on straights. Also everyone who goes to these days is generally friendly, lots of cars from 350Z, supras, elises to fiestas and older escorts attend.

I/we don't have a problem with older cars on track. It's more driving standards we are concerned with. We regularly get a 60s Lotus Elan taking part, and have had a few rapid 205s etc.

I wouldn't imagine that a 1.6 MR2 would be that slow on track that it represented a real danger to anyone else (ie speed differential is too high), so I would be more than happy to have you along taking part

As a beginner to trackdays, I'd like to learn in an environment where I don't have to worry about people trying to race (*cough* hot hatch days *cough*), so the SIDC days look ideal. I'd like to think I'm a reasonably considerate driver, so getting in people's way is something I'd be very conscious of. I know a couple of the Type-R Scotland club who've offered to pass on some pointers as well.

...and it that's the one I'm thinking of, it's driven in a most 'spirited' way. One of the most memorable times at a trackday - ever - was following the Elan through Duffus. It wasn't over endowed with grip on the skinny tyres, but the inside front wheel was off the ground through each corner and doing perfect 3-wheel drifts
