De-Chroming

The exhaust on my Striker is a bit tatty, OK it is worse than tatty, the chrome has peeled and most of it is rusty, I would like to remove the remaining chrome and paint it.

Question is how to remove the remaining chrome.

Is there a chromer near Aberdeen who can do this or is there a home method to strip chrome ?

Regular oven cleaner strips chrome pretty quickly.
I discovered this not by choice, rather due to thinking it would be great for cleaning the exhaust on my 1st car.
As an 18 yr old i had not fully discovered the art of reading instructions first!
