Passed Knockhill on Saturday and noticed they were resurfacing the circuit. A quick trawl on the KH web site says there's some widening going on too, plus changes to corners I've never heard of - they seem to change the names every year. So where are what they now refer to as the 'Seat curves'? Any more info?

Shouldn't this be on the Charlotte Church thread?

Aparently the first corner is now Seat Curves, I have always known it, well maybe not always but for a long time, as Duffus Dip, named after the 'Dippy' Duffus, sorry Alan.

So looks like the main straight has been widened from shortly after the hairpin, is that still Taylor's ?

Clarks I know but Scotsman Corner, where would that be ??

...except for this more current page on the same site www.knockhill.com/news.php?a=40 talks about the SEAT Curves and Scotsman corner....wherever that is. From the article, it reads like Duffus is now SEAT, and maybe its Glenvarigill that's Scotsman, or maybe Butchers?

You might slate off the old Americans for their lack of imagination, but there's a lot to be said about 'turn 1', 'turn 2', 'turn 3' etc.... At least they don't change the names every year. Wasn't the hairpin 'real radio' or something a year or two back?

I'd guess Macintyres now Scotsman Corner from their news article. Extra 20mph into Duffus/Seat curves ! Same run off area? Best not to get too brave there I think.

What's in a name? That which we call a corner,
by any sum of money you can call anything you bloody like...

Has the straight been lengthened as well then?

I will be up there on the 24th for the marshals fun day so, assuming no one is there before me, I will let you know what has been done.

The chicane is the John R Weir chicane now

The commentators were having a few problems with the new names at the BTCC event earlier this year

I think it's pretty crappy that KH feel the need to rename their corners all the time. Not to mention pretty demeaning to the riders/drivers who they used to be named after. What next renaming the place to Campbells Soup Raceway a-la Sears Point!

Nah, I think you just brake less...

Maybe make Duffus faster (easier?) but I'd guess braking into McIntyres would now be a bit hairy...

Let us know what the new layout is like. Regardless of corner names, new layout sounds interesting.

hot marques track day today was the first chance to test the new surface, which was definitely smoother and faster all round. However, a damp and cold day on a new greasy surface was guaranteed to catch a few out including yours truly. Loads of Lotuses having a ball with onre or two offs but the first bend will be a dream to hammer through when it's dry and the back straight is loads smoother for more speed and later braking.....in the dry, if you have too much power for the wet!!!! Certainly will be faster times next year for most of us.

I was there today - couldn't use much beyond 50% throttle or the back end stepped out - reckon it will be sorted for grip by about april
