Plans?
I will be mostly building the car
but hopefully DRIVING IT in 2006 too
Gossip?
Heard from a 'reliable source' that one of the options for a new TVR factory was north of the border due to grant assistance. I did post this in the TVR forum some time back, but no-one 'bit'. Will probably amount to nothing, but I am assured that a particular location in Scotland was being considered (amoungst others nearer to Blackpool!). Don't know where it might be, but there's a nice empty unit at Pitrievie off the M90. That would be handy for me too. Wonder if they'd need a local test driver?

What's everyone's plans for competing next season?
That'd be telling
Prolly road sports up to 1400 as usual. Saying that, my fingers remain firmly crossed that there'll be a change to the classes and I won't be up against those pesky 'busas anymore.
Cheers,
Eric
Sadly, Eric, I doubt there'll be a change to the class structure. The 'movers and shakers' in the committees will, according to what I've heard, not be changing the structure anytime soon.
I think the current class structure is stopping a lot of people bothering to compete:
the bike engine sports class structure is wrong,
the road car structure is wrong (1.9 and 2litre GTis are up against crazy power Evos, Scoobs etc)
the modified structure is wrong (same as in road car)
and the racing car structure (up to 1100 then over 1100cc) seems absurd - who's going to compete with, say, a 2litre Vauxhall engined single seater when you're up against DFR 3.5litre ex-F1 V8 cars?
I think it's madness, but then the committees have decided and THEN gone to tell the club committees. They did not really ask the club committees for their views then decide. It seems all wrong.

I've a feeling there may be a few 'busa's going just over the 1400cc to move a class up...
D'ya reckon Wallace and Gary will be putting on road tyres for next year?

Sounds like the rules are really working against the types of car that are out there or could be out there. Is it old fogeys or just inertial that's keeping things the way they are?

Know the feeling. Broke my car the other week to start fitting all the EFI bits I've finally managed to collect...and of course the weather has been pretty good and it's the first holiday I've had all year to play in it. Sigh.
Hope you get your beast on the road/track at long last. Should be fantastic.

That would be pretty cool. Sadly there's plenty of places along the M8 corridor where they could go these days...

That includes me - when the roadgoing sports were merged with the 7s a couple of years ago that left 'big' sports cars with nowhere to go... but this was a change to make the sprinting classes more in line with the hillclimb classes, so there was a rationale there.

The trouble is in Scotland there are so few competitors, and such a variety of cars, that it is impossible to get 'fair' classes without them being of size 'one'. There have to be compromises and amalgamations, and this leaves a number of people in the amalgamated classes at a distinct disadvantage.
You either then shrug, abandon any hopes of being competitive in your class, and just do it for personal rivalries or personal bests, or you shrug, and go off and do some track days instead. You certainly get more track time for you money...
I don't think there is a solution that keeps everyone happy.

Jeez - just seen the time ... red-eye to London in the morning, alarm goes off in 3.5 hours ... g'night!

Dunno anything but for those serious about a Championship the 1400-1700 roadsports in a 'busa'd Caterham or Westie would seem a logical choice...
Would be a shame for the car engined boys, CT, Martin etc.

red-eye...I wish
Crawled out of bed at 4:15...got to te airport at 5:00...and they cancel the bl**dy flight . D@mn you FlyBE . Flown EasyJet once or twice EVERY WEEK for last couple of years and never had a cancellation or a delay over 30 minutes. No compensation, not even a food voucher. I could have booked the later flight I've been bumped on to and saved £40, but I paid more for the earlier flight. Do I get the difference in fares back? Do I bugg*ry! I hope you had better luck Eric!

Neil,
Wouldn't you now go into the marques class with the likes of Ali and Tut?
Eric
Yes, that's the perfect class for you Neil and indeed why the marques class was added. Ross competed well this year (when he was ashore) in his Chimaera...
Cheers,
Ali
So.....what makes a car eligible for the marques class? Is a humble TVR with a wee engine change eligible? And if it doesn't fit in the marques class then what, as it sure ain't a saloon. Just curious, as might be tempted to do a couple of events later next year once the car's finished (assuming it ever gets finished and actually works!).

Regs are here:

It does state "standard production road cars" so I guess you'd at least need an MOT. There seems to be some flexibility allowing the V8 TR7's and Tut's Honda powered Elise and of course the engine capacity is unlimited.
Cheers,
Ali

I guess they'd have to be fairly liberal with the interpretation of the rules then for me to get in
Standard...well, standard as a roadgoing Tuscan is ever going to be.
Production...well TVR did originally produce them, and maybe 70-odd were built
Road car...mine would be road registered.
