I was at my second dry Knockhill track day a few weeks back and I have the in car video footage on DVD now

My friend timed what he reckons was my fastest lap using the video footage and thinks about 1m15s. Is this dreadful or not too bad. Car is a 1.4 MG ZR

EVERYTHING was flying past on straights but I reckon I was keeping up with most on the corners (except caterhams / elises).

Just looked at footage myself, i have five whole laps on tape, these are my times over finish line.

Lap 1 Start 12:20 Finish 13:36 - 1m16s
Lap 2 Start 13:36 Finish 14:51 - 1m15s
Lap 3 Start 14:51 Finish 16:04 - 1m13s
Lap 4 Start 16:04 Finish 17:18 - 1m14s
Lap 5 Start 17:18 Finish 18:30 - 1m12s - 1m13s

I think i could have been a bit quicker but was braking too early as my brakes kept smoking! A LOT, was told this was because it was new pads and they hadn't been bedded in. They were getting very hot.

Cheers

that sounds decent enough to me.

A couple of friends manage 65-66s but that is in a 300hp MR2 turbo.
I have timed a few elises at between 62-64s and i watched a guy do 61s in a red 360 ( but his car control was stunning).
Quickest I have seen was about 55s but that was a Radical SR3.

Your MG will be putting out 105hp if it is standard and it is a relatively simple hatchback (no slight, just compared to specialist kit mentioned above) so your times sound ok, more important though, did you enjoy it?

I love it, I'll definately be doing some more trackdays next year So far I have done 2 in the dry and one in really heavy rain which was fun.

I dont go to the hothatch days as those guys are physcopaths, but I go to local club organised days and its fantastic, you meet some nice people as well everyone is really friendly and I have had some good passenger rides, a track spec M3, a RS2000, Cortina, Caterham style kit car, Supra, Rapid Nova etc

Car is completely standard. I would like to have a pure trackday car but they are a bit pricey.

Sounds good m8 - Knockhill is a Great circuit

I do about 63s in my EVO and 67s in our S13 drift car, so you're doing OK time wise! As you say, after Duffus, power means nothing until after the chicane - it's great fun keeping up with "faster" cars through that section - I also like trying to get the car really sideways round Macintyres

Here's a wee vid of me there in August - will be back there on Sat 22nd for the SIDC track day - might see you up there some time?

Cheers

72 to 75 seconds sounds pretty good for your car, I was at one of the GMSC nights when you were there, (I was in a Ruby Red Elise) you seemed to be going well. The fast Caterhams and modified Elise/Exiges can manage 60 second laps, not me though, standard Elise, less than standard ability.

I just had a quick look at a few videos that I have from other trackdays (not my vids, just downloads from other people) and there are people with much faster cars than yourself doing laps of more than 70 seconds, some alot more than 70 seconds.

I'll be there all day on the 22nd Oct, come and say hello, and you're welcome to some pax laps.

I will do , Some of those elises at the GMSC track day were seriously quick. My mate was in his 2.0 Nova and the elises were pretty much the only thing that was passing him. One of the elises had a laptop connected to his car!

One of thses ?

I watched some drifting at KH at one of the hot hatch days and a couple of the cars & drivers were really impressive, namely a skyline and a RWD focus. I dont think it was a proper competition round. I will have to try and get to a proper event looks good fun

Cant remember, I think the guy said he thought his engine was running lean, the guy that followed him to the track, also in an elise, said he had flames spitting out his exhaust
