Spark plug thread-Any Helicoil specialists?Aberdeenshire
Discussion
Hi All,
I have a megane sport 265 that suddenly misfired and I think the spark plug thread is totally nakered, the coil pack is melted aswell- looks like the spark plug jumped out of the threads. No idea on why this happened , I haven't replaced them in six years of ownership, it was on my list this year.
I/m away to get a new spark plug and try and carefully rethread but I think from initial assessment the thread is done.
Does anyone know of anyone that would do an in situ repair in Aberdeenshire, I know its not the ideal solution but the other alternative is head off and then back in which I think will be a substantial cost and for the year of the car with milage , i dont think its worth it.
Seen some videos on youtube and the like but would probably look to someone with experience to undertake it, Spoke to a few garages who werent keen but I've seen there are some companies furthur afield but wondering if anyone has any recommendations?
Many thanks

My 182 done this and it had just loosened the spark plug. I posted the video on a FB page and loads of people said that, so it must be common!
Luckily I stopped outside a GSF and a mechanics, so got a new plug, asked the mech to fix it and it’s fine since (4 months). I also replaced the lead with an old one I had at home.
I’d whip it out and inspect. Might just be lose!

A mate had an inspection camera, so I did throw that down and they looked fine, though it wasn’t the best quality.
I’d perhaps look to get a rather long bolt that is the same thread and carefully screw it in and see what it feels like. I was happy with throwing an other it and it holding, but I understand others won’t be!
