Due to the ridiculous costs of trains and also of city centre parking, I am thinking of parking at Hermiston P&R and bus in to centre for a meal / theatre / overnight stay.

How safe is this car park for leaving car overnight?

I've used it a few times for 1 or 2 nights without issue when going through to concerts, it has always been fairly busy so never seemed like my car would stand out in an empty carpark.

There's always a risk I suppose, I just try to park strategically - no dark corners, park under or close to the streetlights, not too far from the main terminal building, and check where the CCTV cameras are mounted on the poles and try to ensure nothing is blocking a straight line view between it and your car.

ETA last time I visited Edinburgh I splashed out the £24 for the Omni next to the Playhouse and wished I'd just used the Hermiston Gait PnR as before - getting up through Edinburgh, avoiding tram/bus lanes and up to the top of Leith St and back was just a big stress!

Cheers for that.
Yip Omnicentre is the one I used to park at and stay overnight at the Travelodge in Waterloo place. But as you say £24.
Or my trains from Motherwell are £16 return each.

Or park n ride is free and £4 or so each return to city centre.

Bit of a no brainer!

It's the only Edinburgh park n ride I've used and was pretty good. Decent bus trip into city centre on the top deck. What's not to like?

Sighthill industrial estate is easy enough and safe enough. The tram runs from the bottom of the industrial estate into town.
