Half term approaches and we're off to Fife, for pretty much the first time in my life. Well, I've driven through it on my way north but never stayed. We've got 2 teens (17 and 14) and a dog, and we're looking for any recommendation for activities whilst we're there.

The missus, dog and I like a gentle stroll in the hills/woods, so can anyone recommend some places to go for a not-too-taxing bit of rambling? We're staying at Anstruther, and have a day out planned to St Andrews for the castle/cathedral ruins etc. Outside of that though I don't really know what's good in the area. Any good secret beaches for instance?

The dustbin lids like something a bit more exciting. Does anyone know of any places we can go for things like quad biking, off road driving experiences, maybe a bit of clay pigeon shooting? I'm not finding too much using standard Googling skills so any personal recommendations and pointers would be most welcome.

Cheers!

The first thing that comes to mind for me is the chainwalk at Elie:

Just check the tide times!

Stunning part of the country.

That looks brilliant flatlemon, sadly my missus will absolutely crap herself at the prospect and it says it's unsuitable for dogs. Maybe I can do it with the binlids if I can persuade the wife to sit in a cafe with the hound!

The beach at Kingsbarns is usually fairly quiet.
Beach at Elie similar plus massive, Tentsmuir (just above Leuchars) beach which also has some woodland walks and there's always East & West Sands at St Andrews.

For off-roading try this place https://www.scotoffroad.co.uk/
I've never tried it but it's been on the go for a long time.
It's in the hills above Auchtermuchty.

Also consider this place https://secretbunker.co.uk/
Again, I haven't been (who ever does the tourist things in their own backyard?) but heard its pretty good.

Head to Burntisland for a wee wander along the beach.

Edinburgh is an easy drive or train journey away.

Thank you Zed, Burntisland noted. Edinburgh is somewhere I've often been, but I may be going for an afternoon on this trip to meet my niece who is up there looking at the University.

Have also booked some karting at Knockhill, so that's the driving bit taken care of!

Loads of stuff to do, I was worried we'd be bored. No chance!

Funny story, I spent a week wire brushing the Abbot SPG that's parked in the car park of the secret bunker about 25 years ago. The owner at the time was a friend of a friend of my dad's and he'd agreed to give it a quick respray before they moved it up to Fife. Got me on board as cheap labour as I was about 13 at the time and I couldn't think of anything more fun than getting my overalls on and hanging round at their lock up in Colinton laugh

V&A in Dundee - I reckon that's no more than a morning.
I whizzed round it in 20 minutes one lunchtime just after it opened.

There's a transport museum just off Dock Street as well https://www.dmoft.co.uk/

You could do both and still have plenty of time for lunch smile

V&A is the most dissapointing muse I havdxecer been in.

The Discovery next door is much more interesting.

Cluny clays is worth the trip.

Knockhill does gokarting outside.

If you like a walk you can walk over the Forth road bridge (old road bridge) from North to South Queensferry and back or get the train back over the Forth bridge

Secret Bunker - the old nuclear command centre near St Andrews. Also the coastal towns Elie-Anstruther-Pittenweem-Crail - interesting walks and beaches around there.

Agree with V and A very disappointing, discovery point definitely worth going, transport museum too, landie used in James Bond film on display.

McManus gallery worth a visit and food in restaurant is good and not expensive.

Verdant works shows the processes in the manufacture of jute products, parking at rear but make sure you park in the correct bay
