Hi All,

I was driving home from Englandshire on Wednesday, and was passing Strathclyde Park on my way home, and it brought back memories of around 25 years ago. There used to be quite a big car scene there. Defo some good memories, and made some good friends, generally female!! biggrin

Do the car brigade still hang around there, or have they moved, or do they not do even congregate like this anymore? My nephew is now 20, similar age to when I was nicking about in my first decent car(s) and doesn't seem to do much other than drive from home to his mates houses.

I remember some lads with the 'faster' cars used to know when the local police had their shift change for the races along the 74 between the Bothwell and Motherwell junctions! biggrin

Strathy cruise.

Yeh some tried to kick-start is but due to park getting locked down ect and due to bad behavior pretty much got chased away.

New cruise started at Hamilton retail.park and did get allot of traction but always a few that want to waste it for everyone

There usually are cruises organised for one month meets rather than a weekly thing now

But yeh when time the shift change wrong and end up with 9 points is a big learning curve and I screwed the nut after that

That’s a bit of a shame it’s now a monthly and planned thing, me and a few mates used to be there most Sunday nights, was good banter and pretty level headed. There was always the odd nutter coming through with a ‘stoler’ doing burn outs and handbrake turns! Good times actually.

9 points! Oops! I ended up with 9 at one point and it was murder driving like a vicar until they expired!! biggrin

Those were the days!

Late 90's / early 00's and I was hanging around with a few guys with 16v Novas, RS Turbos and the like - your bread and butter, cheap to obtain, cheap to build and no willy waving involved. I had a 309 which ended up with an Mi16 in it, then latterly a Cavalier GSi on 18's lowered about a foot and a half. Used to rack up ridiculous miles going round the usual circuits - the prom, Falkirk, up to Crail or Hot Hatch day then through to Strathy on a Sunday night. Front tyres were replaced on a bi-weekly basis and any increase in performance was immediately negated by about 750kgs of JBL 12" subs and amps crammed in the back. The M8 and A92 used to see some highly irresponsible stuff regularly too.

I'm just amazed I got through it a) with my license intact and b) alive...

Good times!

This topics brought back some memories based on all the things mentioned above.

I remember there was a strathy forum to go with it aswell ?

I think there's still some vids on YT from that time, although not looked for a while.

Rather tragically I find myself, usually when the wife is out... browsing the internet for content that she'd rather I didn't - the usual niche stuff, first eBay to see what Mk3 Cavaliers are for sale or if there's any cheap 309's or maybe a Nova with a Redtop in it for under £10k. This is all done whilst the headphones are on and I'm on a YouTube sourced trip back to the good old days of Ultrasonic, QFX, Scooter and many many other late 90's classics. I usually end my several hour deprived binge into dark places with Googling images of Air Max Classics and feeling upset that the massive amount of crap my wife lugs around means that two 12" JBL subs won't actually fir in the back of my diesel Volvo estate. So I go back to eBay...

Do you give yourself a couple of black eyes and smash some car windows for the full Strathy Cruise experience? laugh

Too many meets were ruined by the Buckfast crew.

She does that when she sees my browsing history.

Though as far as Strathy went, I manged to dodge any proper dodgy behaviour... or I bailed out before the idiots ruined it as is the case with many events of that type and probably why cruising as it once was all but died. Worst thing I had was the crowds who "encouraged" a burn out as you drove through. "It's a 4x4" worked for a wee while until some ned decided he'd check for a rear diff. Which was missing.

I visited a few times back in the day when visiting my mum as she stays in Hamilton and was always a laugh to park up and watch others being nutters!

Was staying there last summer with the family so a slight change of pace in the touraeg with a massive caravan on the back compared to mk2 golf and rover 220gsi turbo back in the day!

We went for a wander and I think my eldest enjoyed the stories of cars doing donuts etc.

There still seemed to be some cars going around though as we say a couple on our walk and then could hear some driving about when we were back at the caravan.

Was it the caravan site in Strathy park you stayed in? Just serious dodgy stuff goes on further up that road behind the park.

Yeah it was. Caravan and motorhome club site. Site was really nice and didn't see signs of dodgy goings on. What sort of dodgy stuff we talking? eek

Let’s just say men like to go walks into the trees with other random men, at all times of day and night.

No, started with a grey saloon and then progressed to a blue one. There seemed to be an abundance of Cavaliers down that way back in the day though, the local dodgy characters seemed to like them. Ironic given my first one came from such a chap in Airdrie and I spent the first 24hrs of ownership sweeping it for white powder and pills just in case I got stopped and found myself in the back of a T-5 explaining myself to the local traffic. I hasten to add, sweep revealed nothing.
