Can anyone advise why there have been 50 then 30mph speed limits on the A90 heading north from Dundee for 18months or so ?

Temporary roadworks that no one has ever bothered lifting the signs for. Everyone just ignores them.

I believe it is to slow down traffic prior to the site of the Sea Green building on the left as you head north. In the almost 2 years of the speed signs being there, not once have I seen any traffic entering the site, so I just ignore the speed signs as do most frequent users of the road.

Those limits are between a couple of average speed cameras aren't they? I take it they're not adjusted to match the limits on the signs then?

No or I would have about million points by now. It’s ridiculous how they have been left like that for so long.

Anyone thought to report it to local roads authority?

Was through it the other weekend & my Waze told me of police sitting there, but harsh policing it if there’s no reason.

Got fed up waiting on my 3rd email to be replied to so phoned them. They took my details and called me back to advise that it was Traffic Scotland who deal with speed restrictions.
I called them and got voicemail so emailed them. I received the response below …

Hi Kenny
Thank you for the enquiry below that has been passed to me to respond direct to you.
The speed limit restriction is to facilitate the SSE Seagreen works access and to allow safe movements of abnormal loads to the site, generally under Police Escort.
It is worth noting that there is a Legal Order in place for the speed restrictions and Police Scotland can therefore enforce.
I hope this helps?
Kind regards

I have now pointed out that I’ve not seen an abnormal load in two years, and have also asked how long they are likely to be in place for .

Watch this space ……

A TTRO dropping the speed limit when the activity it is for is "generally under police escort" really doesn't make much sense. If I get bored I might look up what's in the TTRO.

I got bored. The guy who replied says they have a TTRO but I can't find it. I haven't spent ages searching, but I can't see it. It could be interesting to politely ask to see a copy of the TTRO. As the A90 is trunk road, it should be published here on the Transport Scotland site - https://www.transport.gov.scot/road-orders/?roador...
Without a valid TTRO the limit would not be enforceable.

My wife got snapped by a camera van on this stretch in December. Though it was in a 70 zone.

I am glad someone else has grown tired of these non roadworks...Kind of mental it has been allowed to have gone on so long with no actual work happening. I am going to contact SSE as well...Surely on the very rare occasion there is an oversize load they could get a police escort and deal with it that way rather than inconveniencing every single road user for the past 2 years!

Went through this morning, a reasonable number of others slowed to the 50 limit but nobody dropped to 30 for that section.
It's a joke but at least there's actually work now going on in the field beside the road

I thought it was all average cameras now?

I guess people could turn off before the next avg speed camera so nail it after the last camera they pass. Maybe that is who they are out to catch? I have seen people whizz past me between cameras and then slam on the brakes as they approach the cameras, they surely don't understand how these cameras work.
I don't like the proliferation of speed cameras on roads like this, I'd much prefer money to be spent catching the twunts who speed through villages and towns where people are more at risk from their lead footed driving escapades.

Yes, she was photographed by a “safety camera” van, out there in all weathers keeping everyone on the roads nice and safe.
